The Lunar New Year is not only a time for family reunions and togetherness but also an opportunity for each of us to share and spread love to those less fortunate. With a spirit of compassion and a commitment to positive humanitarian values, the Dewey Tay Ho Tay Community Fund recently organized the successful charity program “Loving Spring” at Social Protection Center 3 (Tay Mo, Hanoi).
Social Protection Center 3 is currently home to children and elderly individuals who face material and emotional hardships. For them, the idea of a warm and joyful Lunar New Year celebration with family feels like a distant dream. Understanding these challenges, TDSers and teachers brought the “Loving Spring” to the center, allowing the children and elderly to experience the heartfelt and warm atmosphere of the Lunar New Year.
One week before the charity trip, during the lunch breaks, TDSers and teachers busily prepared Lunar New Year gifts for the children and elderly at Social Protection Center 3. Pham Doan Bao Linh, a student from 6Liverpool, shared: “Each gift, though small, is wrapped with all our hearts, filled with love and sincere compassion. We hope these gifts bring joy and warmth to the children and elderly at Social Protection Center 3. In giving, we have also received so much in return – happiness, lessons in empathy, and an appreciation for what we have. Compared to the less fortunate lives out there, we realize just how lucky we are.”
The “Loving Spring” program brought a lively and festive atmosphere to Social Protection Center 3, with a variety of engaging activities, including bracelet-making workshops, statue painting, and exciting games. The center was far more bustling than usual, filled with the sound of laughter and cheerful chatter. Gifts were personally handed to each child and elderly resident, accompanied by warm Lunar New Year wishes from Dewey students. Watching the children excitedly unwrapping their gifts, their tiny hands cradling the newly received teddy bears, warmed the hearts of everyone present.
Without hesitation, TDSers and teachers rolled up their sleeves to clean and decorate the center’s courtyard. The vibrant red of lanterns and the meticulously written calligraphy pieces by TDSers brought the spirit of Tet closer to the center.
The “Loving Spring” program not only spread joy and the warmth of Lunar New Year to the children and elderly at Social Protection Center 3 but also provided TDSers with a meaningful opportunity to understand the value of sharing and their responsibility to the community. The heartfelt moments of this trip became invaluable lessons in compassion and kindness.
A heartfelt thank you to parents, teachers, and Dewey students for coming together and contributing to the success of the “Loving Spring” program through the Dewey Community Fund. We hope the spirit of “giving is forever” will continue to spread, bringing many more warm and happy springs to those less fortunate.
