A new school year begins with connection — with ourselves, with one another, and with the world around us.
Guided by the message “Listen to Your Feelings, Spread Your Wings,” Orientation Week at Dewey gives TDSers time to ease into school life, prepare themselves for the journey ahead, and gradually build a sense of belonging before the new school year officially begins.

Through themed conversations and self-discovery activities, students have opportunities to better understand their strengths, differences, and emotions. From there, they begin to identify the goals they want to work towards this year and think about the steps they can take to get closer to them.
Alongside understanding themselves, students also begin building connections with their new community. Through team challenges, team-building activities, creating class agreements together, and laughter-filled sports games, they gradually learn to listen, collaborate, share responsibility, and respect different perspectives within a group.

Dewey’s four core values – Integrity, Passion, Generosity, and Lifelong Learning – are also revisited through relatable situations and everyday experiences. From the way students treat their friends and take responsibility in group activities to how they use technology in digital spaces, they begin to see that these values are reflected in the small choices they make every day.
