“Leadership is based on inspiration, not domination; on cooperation, not intimidation.”
The quote from the well-known American educator William Arthur Ward precisely portrays the figure of a true leader: someone taking empathy and inspiration as the compass while leading a group of people. And that’s the story of Dao Tien Bang, SED of TDS Ocean Park, the captain who has been sailing the TDS Ocean Park ship from its very first days, at the same time promoting cultural values to encourage solidarity within the faculty and school staff community of the campus.
THE STORY OF A DEDICATED AND ENTHUSIASTIC GUIDE
Being the leader of an escalator school is a busy journey with considerable difficulty and challenges, particularly when TDS Ocean Park has just been open for one year. More goals are to be achieved for the campus to reach its destination. Despite that, Mr. Bang has always been patient and dedicated, leading the team to move forward while supporting and inspiring the team for further progress.
Speaking of a fond memory of when being assigned with the task of designing the reporting file on daily routine and discipline at the campus and having a chance to work directly with the SED, Nguyen Viet Dai Phuc, the Discipline Officer at TDS Ocean Park, says with admiration, “Mr. Bang not only guides but also helps me optimize the templates and improve my work performance. I’m so grateful for his devotion.” Phuc thinks the dedication and generosity of his leader will allow individuals like him space to grow and motivate the whole team. “He’s always there to help and support us. He’s truly an inspirational figure,” says Phuc with glee. What Mr. Bang has accomplished so far is not just work. He’s creating a sustainable working environment at the campus.
SINCERITY AND SIMPLICITY IN CULTURAL ORIENTATION AND PROMOTION
To all the teachers and school staff at the campus, SED Dao Tien Bang is not only a colleague but also an older brother who guides the team with dedication. He never gives orders to or is forceful on anyone at work. Instead, he empowers them, giving them the space needed to bloom. Speaking of her leader, Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan, the Manager of Academic Affairs, says, “Mr. Bang has changed my mind on how a leader should be. I see in him sincerity and great patience. His way is to unfold our thinking with questions for solutions.” Probably, this trait of him is one of the factors making TDS Ocean Park a united team in which every team member is heard and encouraged to share their point of view.
“He always hints us with questions instead of giving us a straight answer. This encourages us to think and find the answers ourselves. I’ve matured so much with my thinking at work thanks to him.” His ‘leading style’ has encouraged Ms. Nhan and other employees and teachers at the campus to learn and grow. What’s more special about Mr. Bang is that, apart from supporting others to accomplish their tasks, he also encourages them to refine their critical thinking, try new directions, and even step out of their comfort zone to explore and unfold their potential.
️ During the recent Edufit’s Year-End Party, Tien Bang was the one from TDS Ocean Park to be celebrated with the “Inspirational Award”. This is a deserving recognition for his tireless efforts in guiding the team and promoting positive values at the workplace. Beyond a title, this award and the story of Mr. Bang greatly motivate and encourage others to keep learning and striving for more each day for further progress together.
