As the final pages of the school year slowly come to a close, The Dewey Schools opened up a very different kind of learning space called “Final Lesson” — a place where knowledge no longer stays on paper, but transforms into vivid experiences through performances, exhibitions, conversations, and hands-on interactions.
Instead of separate subject presentations, interdisciplinary knowledge was connected into one meaningful journey, where students used their critical thinking, communication, presentation, and creativity skills to share their own growth stories after a year of learning.

“To teach is to learn twice.” (Joseph Joubert). That spirit was clearly reflected in the interactive Math activity, where an exciting role reversal took place: students became the “teachers” guiding their parents through Math challenges. In this special classroom, parents discovered that Math is not simply about memorizing formulas, but about deeply understanding concepts and applying them in real life. Watching these little “teachers” confidently lead the activities, manage challenges, and explain problems to their parents showed that knowledge had truly become their capability.
The journey continued through emotional Literature and Arts spaces. Vietnamese and Literature lessons were brought to life through performances, music, and creative storytelling from the unique perspectives of primary students. From “The Story of the Green Forest” by Grade 2 students to rhythmic chants integrated with interdisciplinary knowledge, each performance not only nurtured artistic appreciation but also developed confidence, communication, teamwork, and emotional expression in front of an audience.

Alongside the presentations was an exhibition space showcasing students’ learning products throughout their educational journey. From paintings and handmade crafts to creative projects and models, every piece reflected the students’ observations, thinking process, and growth through their experiences at Dewey.
Witnessing her child’s confident growth, a parent from class 5Luanda emotionally shared: “The teaching and learning approach at Dewey truly offers a completely different perspective compared to our generation. Instead of forcing students into rigid sample essays or dry formulas, the school respects and nurtures each child’s individuality. Even Math, which is often seen as rigid, is approached artistically through poetry and visual arts, helping children absorb knowledge naturally without pressure.”

Proud eyes, joyful smiles, and quiet moments of parents attentively watching their children’s presentations all came together to create a deeply meaningful and emotional “Final Lesson.”
And perhaps, that is what truly makes an end-of-year celebration meaningful — not simply looking back at how much knowledge children have learned, but allowing families to realize how much they have grown. Learning to confidently express themselves, collaborate, create, empathize, and connect with the world around them with more open hearts. After every school year, the most precious thing is the journey of each child slowly breaking out of their cocoon to become a better version of themselves.
