REGULATIONS ON FIRE DRILL, FIRE RESPONSE, AND RESCUE AND SALVAGE
In order to perform emergency procedures during fire hazard in a school environment, The Dewey Schools are equipped with all tools and equipements, machines to improvise in any situations. The Safety Committee also check, provide maintenance to all tools, equipment and machineries to ensure of their functionality, closely monitor the use of fire/ sources of heat on campus. Especially, the school also collaborate with the Police team from the Fire Department to organize fire drill practices to all members, including: teachers, staffs and students in order to provide the knowledge, skills, solutions, fire emergency procedures, ability to escape from an emergency fire or explosion.
PRINCIPLES FOR ENSURING STUDENT SAFETY
- Student safety remains the school’s highest priority in all emergency scenarios.
- Students are guided to move according to the designated evacuation routes.
- Students shall not use elevators.
- All movement must be conducted in an orderly manner under the guidance of teachers and school staff.
- The School always ensures a full headcount of students at the safe assembly point after evacuation.
- Students requiring special assistance will receive individual support from assigned personnel.
- In the event of a fire alarm, where it has not been verified whether it is an actual fire or a false alarm, the entire school shall perform evacuation according to the procedure. Once a false alarm is confirmed, the Firefighting and Prevention Team Leader shall notify the Parent Support Department to make a school-wide announcement for students, teachers, and staff to return to their classrooms and work areas.
- The School organizes annual rehearsals and training to enhance the awareness, skills, and response capabilities of all students, teachers, and staff regarding fire situations.
REGULATIONS ON ANNUAL FIRE DRILLS
- The organization of fire drills is a critical part of ensuring school safety and complying with the provisions of the Law on Fire Prevention and Fighting and CIS criteria regarding the maintenance of a safe learning environment and the protection of student health.
- Fire drills serve to verify and consolidate fire response procedures, while ensuring that all individuals clearly understand their specific responsibilities and the necessary actions to be taken should an incident occur.
- The School shall establish the plan and frequency of annual drills, which are included in the Academic Calendar. Additionally, the School may organize supplementary unannounced drills to assess the response levels and evacuation skills of students, teachers, and staff.
- The rehearsal process includes the following steps: fire detection, student evacuation, fire suppression/incident management, and search and rescue. Relevant departments, including the School Firefighting and Prevention Team, teachers, staff, and students, shall participate fully to ensure smooth and effective coordination in real-world situations.
- Parents will receive notifications regarding the plans and information about the drills from the School via the Edufit Parents App.
REGULATIONS FOR STUDENTS DURING EVACUATION
Upon hearing the alarm:
- Students shall cease their current activities.
- Students must proceed to the nearest exit following the guidance of teachers/staff.
- The use of elevators is strictly prohibited.
- Students shall move in an orderly manner to the safe assembly area.
At the assembly point:
- Students must line up by class for roll call and adhere to the instructions of teachers and staff.
- Students are required to remain calm, maintain composure, preserve order, and refrain from moving around freely.
After the fire has been handled:
- Students shall follow the instructions of the teachers/staff.
- Students must notify teachers or staff immediately if they require health-related assistance.
REGULATIONS FOR TEACHERS AND SUPERVISORS
Upon hearing the alarm:
- Teachers shall direct students to the nearest and safest exit:
- Instruct students to stay low while moving, cover their nose and mouth with a damp cloth (if available), move along the walls away from smoke/fire, and avoid overcrowded exits.
- In areas of dense smoke, teachers shall divert the evacuation route toward upwind or less affected areas.
- Before opening an exit door, teachers or supervisors shall use the back of their hand to test the door’s temperature; if the door is hot, students must be guided to an alternative exit.
- Students during nap time, music class, etc.: They shall be instructed to carry their footwear and move barefoot if necessary.
- The teacher shall be the last person to exit the classroom and is responsible for verifying that no students remain inside. During recess, hallway supervisors must conduct a sweep of the floors to ensure all students have evacuated.
- Teachers/Supervisors walk at the end of the line to monitor students and guide them to evacuate according to regulations to ensure safety.
- In case of students requiring special assistance, teachers must notify the Evacuation Team of the School Firefighting and Prevention Team to support the students in moving to the assembly point.
At the assembly point:
- Teachers/Staff guide students into lines and conduct a headcount.
- In the event of a student being missing, report immediately to the School Firefighting and Prevention Team so the Evacuation Team can provide a timely rescue.
- If a student requires health assistance, report immediately to the relevant focal points for support.
After the fire has been handled:
- Guide students to return to their classrooms.
- Inspect facilities to ensure safety.
- In cases where students require psychological or health support, report to the relevant focal points for assistance.
NOTES FOR PARENTS
Upon receiving notification from the School regarding a fire:
- Remain calm and patiently wait for further announcements.
- Do not call the School to avoid overloading the communication system.
- Do not attempt to enter the School during a fire or explosion incident.
- Wait for the School’s announcement regarding student pick-up times.
Respect the School’s decisions concerning student pick-up procedures.
Provide information regarding the student if an incident occurs.
