There is one class that students always look forward to each week, even though it has no air-conditioned classroom or rows of familiar desks and chairs. It is a space where they can move, challenge themselves, andrelease their energy. That class is Physical Education with Mr. Nguyễn Thành Đạt at The Dewey Schools Hải Phòng.
Few people know that behind the image of a friendly and approachable teacher is a long list of medals and achievements, including the title of National Master Athlete. Having won Gold Medals at the National YouthChampionships, the National Phù Đổng Sports Festival, the National Student Games, and many other prestigious competitions, Mr. Đạt chose to bring his experience as an athlete into the field of education.

His teaching journey began in 2019 within the Edufit education system as a swimming instructor at Aqua-Tots Dương Kinh. After years of accompanying and inspiring young swimmers, he joined The Dewey SchoolsHải Phòng as a Physical Education teacher in late 2021, hoping to spread his passion for sports and movement to even more students.
The early days of teaching were not always easy. Building connections with students, earning their trust, and encouraging them to open up was a challenge. However, through everyday conversations, thoughtfulquestions, and a touch of humor at the beginning of each lesson, Mr. Đạt gradually became a trusted and familiar figure among his students.

What impresses Mr. Đạt most about Dewey students, especially those in middle and high school, is their initiative and willingness to ask questions. Rather than simply following instructions, many students activelydiscuss real-life situations, challenge ideas, and raise thoughtful questions about the benefits and risks of the techniques being taught. Others openly share their physical conditions and personal goals so that lessons can be adapted to better suit their needs.
It is this spirit of initiative that has transformed ordinary PE classes into “a two-way learning environment where students do not simply listen, but ask questions, exchange ideas, and work together with teachers to solve real-world challenges,” Mr. Đạt shared.

Most recently, Mr. Đạt directly coached and mentored two Dewey Hải Phòng students, Huy Quân and Khánh Linh from Class 4 Tahiti, helping them outperform more than 1,300 competitors to win Gold and SilverMedals at the Hải Phòng Primary and Secondary School Swimming Championship for the 2025–2026 academic year. His support extends far beyond the classroom, as he is always willing to dedicate extra time to students who are passionate about sports, helping them develop their abilities, nurture their interests, and confidently step onto larger competitive stages.
More than just a dedicated teacher, Mr. Nguyễn Thành Đạt represents the educational spirit of The Dewey Schools: a place where teachers do more than deliver knowledge. They create opportunities for students to engage in dialogue, challenge themselves, and grow through meaningful experiences.

We invite parents, teachers, and students to learn more about Mr. Nguyễn Thành Đạt’s journey through the article below:
