Over the past weekend, the volunteer convoy “Together with D-Show 25”, representing the four Dewey campuses of Tay Ho Tay, Cau Giay, Ocean Park, and Hai Phong, set out early in the morning, traveling more than 160 kilometers to reach the Huu San Primary and Secondary School. This school serves hundreds of children in a mountainous region and is one of six schools selected by The Dewey Schools, in collaboration with the Nuoi Em ecosystem and the Vietnam National Volunteer Center (VVC), to receive a special gift: a “Computer Room for Children.”
Throughout the journey, the buses were filled with lively chatter, and the Dewey students’ eyes sparkled with excitement and curiosity. Some rehearsed their performances, some took a quick nap to regain energy, while others reviewed game scripts in preparation for the warm interactions ahead with the children of this remote mountain area.
As the convoy slowly approached the school, the atmosphere suddenly became vibrant. In the sunlit courtyard, the innocent faces of the children lit up in a heartfelt welcome. They waved enthusiastically, called out to their friends, and ran to greet the group. The gift-giving ceremony was simple yet deeply emotional. Sincere speeches, heartfelt musical performances, and small presents wrapped with love from the Dewey community planted seeds of compassion in the hearts of all attendees, reinforcing a belief in a world where, regardless of whether a child lives in the city or the mountains, every child deserves access to knowledge.
After the ceremony, the group visited the newly established Computer Room, where 10 modern computer sets were officially handed over to the school. Wide-eyed children carefully explored each function on the computers with their tiny hands. Some curiously peeked at their friends typing next to them, while others shyly asked the Dewey students for help using learning software. In these moments, the TDSers were no longer visitors, but older siblings, patiently and warmly guiding their younger friends in the remote area.
Pham Chau Giang, class 10 Havana at Dewey Ocean Park, shared emotionally: “While guiding the younger students on how to type, I realized that some were unfamiliar with the new technology, while others quickly showed me new things they had discovered on the computer. But all of them were so innocent and sincere. Spending time with them made me feel more grateful for what I have. I feel lucky and inspired to help even more.”
The journey to deliver 60 modern computer sets to students in the mountainous regions would not have been complete without the invaluable support of generous sponsors.
The Dewey Schools would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our esteemed sponsors, those who have trusted, supported, and accompanied us throughout the D-Show 25 project.
