After exploring the charming world of Lang Nuong Village, Japan became the next special destination on the journey of our Global Explorers campers. Without passports or long-haul flights, the children were able to “set foot” in the Land of the Rising Sun through vibrant cultural experiences right here at The Dewey Schools Hai Phong.
Dressed in traditional Kimono, our young explorers eagerly transformed into little citizens of Japan. From the elegant patterns woven into the garments to the unique way they are worn, every experience helped the children gain a deeper appreciation for a cultural icon that has been closely tied to Japanese history and identity for centuries.

Along the way, Kitsune masks became a special “ticket” that invited campers to discover the fascinating world of Japanese folklore. In Japanese mythology, Kitsune are fox spirits and messengers of the agricultural deity Inari, symbolizing intelligence, transformation, protection, and good fortune. Through their creativity, each child decorated their mask with unique colors and designs, creating one-of-a-kind masterpieces that reflected their own personalities.

More than just an arts-and-crafts activity, every brushstroke became an opportunity for children to observe, explore, and connect with culture through their own imagination. And when this “journey to Japan” came to an end, the masks became meaningful souvenirs — treasured keepsakes from an unforgettable summer adventure.

Through rich cultural experiences like these, Global Explorers Camp not only broadens students’ understanding of the world but also nurtures curiosity, a spirit of exploration, and the ability to connect with diverse cultures. For our young explorers, every new experience is a doorway to a bigger world — one where they learn to observe, understand, and appreciate the beauty of diversity in everyday life.
