Beyond textbook knowledge, do students truly understand how the professional world operates?
That is the fundamental question that drives The Dewey Schools’ University and Career Counseling Office to organize annual corporate experience programs. These trips provide students with opportunities to gain practical experience, get a clearer view of the career landscape, and build confidence in their own choices. This school year, one of the most valuable experiences for our 10th graders was a field trip to SEVI Food in Bac Giang.

Here, students observed firsthand how a food company operates from the inside out. From raw materials, production processes, and quality control to packaging and distribution—every stage is a crucial link in a tightly integrated system. They realized that getting a product into the hands of consumers is not just the result of manufacturing, but a combination of management, standards, and responsibility.
But the greater lesson lies beyond the assembly line. Through conversations with the company’s leadership team, the students gained a deeper understanding of the essence of sustainable business. “From listening to the leaders, I learned that while marketing can help a product reach its initial customers, it is the quality and methodical investment in Research & Development (R&D) that are the core factors determining a business’s sustainable growth. Through this trip, I’ve gained a more practical perspective and feel much better prepared for my future business orientation,” shared Ha An (Class 10 Olinda).

Accompanying the students on this trip, Mr. Dang Minh Quang (President of The Dewey Schools Parent Council) highly praised the activity’s value: “Creating opportunities for our children to interact directly with business owners and listen to practical perspectives brings value that goes far beyond textbooks. It is these lessons learned from both successes and failures that will help them develop profound critical thinking and mature significantly.”
Through career-oriented experiences like this, students do more than just accumulate knowledge; they step-by-step build practical thinking, analytical skills, and decision-making capabilities—essential foundations for entering the professional world in the future.
