Schoolwork, looming exams and all the changes that come with growing up – how can students navigate these challenges without feeling overwhelmed? Our Dewey Dolphin Reporter dropped by Class 9Nimes to see how TDSers explored stress management during a Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lesson.
The first step was learning to look inward. Through mood drawings, self-assessments of their stress levels and discussions about the pressures they face at school and in everyday life, students practised identifying and putting their feelings into words.

Next, they explored practical ways to cope with stress. They practised regulating their breathing to regain a sense of calm, identified what they could and could not control, and discussed when to seek support and how to take care of their basic needs when feeling overwhelmed. Each activity offered strategies they could put into practice beyond the classroom.
One key takeaway emerged from their lively discussions: stress isn’t always the enemy! In manageable amounts, it can be a signal that our bodies are responding to a challenge and helping us focus on what lies ahead.

Understanding our emotions, recognising our limits and knowing how to care for ourselves when pressure builds are skills we can develop every day. This is how Dewey’s 2026–2027 theme, “Mindful Hearts – Soaring Wings,” comes to life in everyday learning experiences.
As the lesson came to a close, our Dewey Dolphin Reporter gave Class 9Nimes a perfect score for their openness, active participation and thoughtful reflections!
