According to the Authority of Information Security (Ministry of Information and Communications), in just the first nine months of 2024, more than 22,200 reports of online fraud were recorded. In 2025, these cases are expected to increase in scale, with increasingly sophisticated tactics specifically targeting children aged 8 to 16 – an age group with limited social experience, natural curiosity, but underdeveloped skills to cope and protect themselves in the digital world. This reality highlights the urgent need to educate students in using technology safely and responsibly.

Digital Citizenship is one of the three core pedagogical declarations at The Dewey Schools. Rather than focusing solely on technical skills, Dewey emphasizes equipping students with digital citizenship knowledge and competencies, enabling them to protect themselves, interact safely, and use technology wisely and responsibly.

Ms. Bùi Như Ngọc – Specialist, Educational Research & Pedagogy Council (ERPC) – shared that Dewey is among the first schools in Vietnam to integrate digital citizenship into the official curriculum through a dedicated subject and a framework of six core digital citizenship competencies.

Furthermore, the goals of digital citizenship are embedded across all other academic subjects. Dewey students use technology as a tool for creativity, problem-solving, and producing meaningful learning outcomes. They apply the digital citizenship competency framework effectively to their personal development, such as conducting online research, receiving and analyzing multidimensional information, and connecting with the global community.

The Dewey Schools is steadily nurturing a generation of wise, responsible digital citizens who spread positive values and are fully prepared for the digital future. In the near future, Dewey will launch a Digital Citizenship Competition, offering students opportunities to experience, challenge themselves, and showcase their competencies. This will mark an important milestone in advancing the school’s commitment to digital citizenship.
