At The Dewey Schools, professional development programs are not limited to newly joined teachers. Every summer and prior to the new academic year, all educators participate in specialized training courses. These programs are not only annual professional activities but also critical opportunities for teachers to reflect on their past journey, stay updated with the latest educational trends, and prepare comprehensively for the school year ahead.

For teachers with a strong academic foundation, the training focuses on enhancing classroom management skills, effective lesson planning, and updating changes in the curriculum and modern educational practices. “In the Global Citizenship course, my colleagues and I have the chance to reflect on the previous year, share both challenges and successes, and together refine our approaches to meet the objectives of the upcoming school year. This year, in particular, global citizenship goals will be integrated across various subjects,” shared Mr. Vũ Đức Anh, a global citizenship teacher.

Beyond skill development, these training sessions also encourage teachers to reflect on their teaching methods and propose curriculum improvements that align more closely with classroom realities. “For experienced teachers who have worked at Dewey for many years, their practical insights are invaluable for the Educational Research and Pedagogy Council (ERPC) in shaping and adjusting the curriculum to better meet students’ needs,” said Ms. Đàm Thùy Linh, an ERPC specialist.

In a time of constant educational shifts, alongside ongoing reforms from the Ministry of Education and Training and the rising influence of artificial intelligence, teacher training is no longer optional—it is essential. At Dewey, the spirit of lifelong learning is not only emphasized for students; teachers themselves are also expected to continuously update their knowledge, grow professionally, and embrace innovation.

“These sessions are a chance for teachers to engage with new trends, exchange real-world experiences, and learn from one another. This is especially crucial as education continues to evolve rapidly,” shared Ms. Nguyễn Thị Thanh Hải, Director of the Social Sciences and Humanities Program at the Dewey Educational Research and Pedagogy Council.
Dewey’s investment in the ongoing professional development of its veteran educators reflects a strong commitment to improving teaching quality and nurturing academic excellence. In the ever-changing landscape of education, it is the openness to learning and tireless pursuit of growth among teachers that serves as a powerful catalyst, helping students develop holistically and inspiring a proactive and positive learning culture.
