If art is a mirror that reflects society, then the sculptures created by 8Ruse students in Visual Arts have become the voice of the younger generation, speaking out on pressing social issues.

In this special project, which has been ongoing since the beginning of the year, TDSers have independently chosen three critical social issues: mental health, microplastic pollution, and labor exploitation.

Through the language of sculpture, TDSers have used their hands and minds to create works of boundless creativity. These young “sculptors” collaborated to design 3D models using materials such as cement, clay, and cardboard, bringing their ideas to life in a multi-dimensional form. As a result, their Visual Arts classroom has been transformed into a true exhibition space.

Representing the group working on the theme of “Mental Health,” TDSer Kwon Hyemin shared: “Even those who always seem happy may not feel that way inside. They hide their pain because they don’t want to burden others. Today, the pressures of school, work, and life push many people into depression, yet they are afraid to speak up. We need to help them so that everyone can rediscover joy in life.

More than just a lesson in sculpture, this project has shown students that art has the power to provoke thought, convey messages, and influence the world around them. They continuously asked themselves: How can we express our creative ideas from different perspectives? And these very artworks serve as a powerful answer.

Ms. Anjah Venter, Visual Arts teacher, proudly remarked: “The students have worked incredibly hard, conducted thorough research, and poured their hearts into this project. Their artworks not only showcase creativity but also prove that art has the power to impact the world in its own unique way. Their final pieces have far exceeded my expectations.

These works are not merely about the external beauty of form, lines, or proportions – they embody the inner beauty and depth of thought of these young sculptors. With boundless creativity, the 8Ruse TDSers have reflected reality, connected ideas with action, and contributed to a better world through the lens of art.

As Leonardo da Vinci once said, “Art has no limits, only doors that open to imagination and creativity.” May TDSers continue to nurture their love for art and work together to build a better world, fueled by their dreams and aspirations.
