During the 2023-2024 school year, TDSers showcased their boundless creativity through unique and practical Science and MDE (Maker, Design, Engineering) projects. What started as ideas from textbooks, TDSers brought to life, turning them into real-world products.
The invention course at The Dewey Schools adopts modern teaching methods, such as Project-Based Learning and Design Thinking, which encourage students to take initiative in exploring and discovering. As a result, TDSers develop logical thinking and practice scientific processes. The Makerspace is where students’ creations come to life – a place where their dreams become reality, equipped with laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC carving machines, and more.
By conducting their own surveys on the needs of the surrounding community, students have used empathy, creativity, and the knowledge they’ve gained to create products with real-life applications. A prime example is the My Project initiative, where 10th and 11th-grade students produced a variety of unique and innovative products, leaving a strong impression on their teachers. Notable examples include smart home models that are convenient and tailored to specific user groups, motor-powered models, or virtual reality applications that provide vivid images of planets in the universe.
Let’s take a look at some of the products created by these young “scientists”!
