Stepping into the “Visual Arts Exhibition” at Dewey, many parents and teachers were pleasantly surprised by a warm, thoughtfully curated space rich in creative expression. The exhibition was organized as a competition to showcase and honor outstanding artworks by Middle School “young artists.” Each display area opened up a distinct world of its own, inviting viewers to slow down, observe, and reflect. Soft Christmas melodies performed by the school band gently guided emotions, creating a truly immersive artistic experience.

Behind every artwork lay a rigorous and dedicated creative journey. Speaking about the sculpture “The Beauty of the Mind,” Khánh Linh (8Ruse) shared that over nearly a month, she and her teammates continuously developed ideas, experimented with materials, refined forms of expression, and completed the final piece. Inspired by the theme “Hidden Beauty,” the group used the imagery of a heart and a brain in bloom, covered by a cracked, makeup-like mask, to convey the message that beauty is not confined to appearance but is rooted in inner values such as kindness, empathy, and positive thinking. While outward looks may change, beauty born of the heart and soul continues to quietly blossom and shine.

Attending the exhibition, Ms. Vân Trang, a parent of a 6Manchester student, expressed her admiration for the musical talent and artistic creativity of TDSers. “I was particularly impressed by the piece ‘A Piece of Me Dies,’ which reflects the pressure on a student striving for perfection. The artwork, assembled from various test papers, presents a highly original concept. What is truly valuable lies not only in technical skill, but in the students’ courage to present their personal perspectives and their ability to choose forms of expression that effectively convey their intended message.”

The “Visual Arts Exhibition” concluded as a beautiful point of connection between art, music, and people. Visitors not only admired meticulously crafted works but also deeply felt the spirit of creativity, courage, and passion being nurtured day by day in every Dewey student. The exhibition’s greatest value lies not in the final products, but in the journey of growth through experience—where students learn to shape and defend ideas, present their work to the public, and listen to and respect diverse perspectives in creative expression.
