“Vietnam has a flag
To remind us we are free
Wherever one may go
Looking up, pride will always be.”
“Seeing the streets blanketed in red flags with golden stars during the celebration of Vietnam’s 80th National Day, I felt an even deeper gratitude for the generations who sacrificed for our nation’s independence. Holding my camera to capture those moments, I was filled with pride and emotion. In every photo, I could feel the happiness of living in peace. It was a truly memorable experience that left me with profound emotions.” — Shared by Đoàn Minh Anh (Class 12Detroit) as part of the street photography project celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2).

Every TDSer has their own way of expressing love for their country and national pride. Some compose poetry, others paint, while some choose to preserve every moment of “peace” through photography. Through their lenses, peace gleams in vibrant colors: the brilliant red of the national flag adorning every street corner, the golden hue of autumn in the season of independence…
These photographs serve as a reminder that today’s peace was earned through the sacrifices of our forefathers—those who “sowed their youth” to gain freedom for the nation. It is also the driving force that inspires TDSers to strive in their studies and training, carrying the courage and spirit of Vietnam out into the world.
