At Dewey, there are students who stand out not only for their academic achievements but also for their complete journey of personal growth — where passion, effort, and life purpose shine together. Phạm Linh Uyên, a 12th-grade bilingual student from Columbia class, is one such remarkable face. Recently, Uyên earned a prestigious 70% scholarship to study Business Administration at VinUni, marking a significant milestone in her journey to realize her dream of becoming a connector and cultivator of Vietnam’s artistic community.
Uyên’s musical talent was nurtured from a young age, with a pure, emotional, and soaring voice. From confidently performing on stage to winning numerous district and city-level music awards, Uyên has not only showcased her talent but also demonstrated deep dedication and love for the arts. One particularly memorable moment was her role as the Director of the musical “Đinh Bộ Lĩnh” — an interdisciplinary English-language project meticulously produced and performed on the school’s grand stage. As the curtain closed to endless applause, a dream was born in Uyên — to become the person behind the scenes, a passionate art manager who supports and uplifts young artistic talents. “I want to help fellow music lovers grow in the most meaningful and creative ways. Through contemporary folk music, I hope to contribute to preserving the beauty of Vietnamese culture in an increasingly diverse and global music world,” Uyên shared.
In her vibrant and colorful journey, Uyên emerges as a young artist full of inner strength. She once won Best Director at the Dewey Film Festival 2022–2023, and has also performed as a DJ with captivating remixes at various events and street corners of Hanoi. Whether as a singer, director, or music producer, Uyên embodies one consistent truth: passion is the fire that fuels all of her artistic pursuits.
Beyond the arts, Linh Uyên is also a passionate young leader in community activities. In the summer of 2023, she initiated the “Lemonade for Exam Season” campaign, where she and her friends prepared drinks, decorated cups with handwritten messages of encouragement, and handed them out to 12th-grade students at various exam sites across Hanoi. The campaign also carried an environmental message by encouraging reduced use of bottled drinks, and it was recognized by Vietnam Television (VTV). Additionally, Uyên co-organized the Circino basketball tournament, which drew over 100 participating teams, and was one of the first members to help launch Dewey’s TikTok channel. In just five months, the channel has published over 40 videos, each attracting an average of 30,000 views.
“Linh Uyên is a bold, independent girl with the distinctive spirit of Gen Z. What impresses me most is her courage to explore unconventional ideas and her ability to spread positivity to those around her. In Uyên, I see a unique harmony between youthful creativity and a deep desire to preserve Vietnam’s traditional cultural values. She’s not only someone with a clear sense of direction but also someone I truly admire for her consistency between words and actions. Once she sets a goal, she always takes initiative, meets deadlines early, and completes her work with seriousness, responsibility, and a genuine desire to improve. I believe VinUni will be a perfect environment to further nurture her unique personality,” shared Ms. Hà, Uyên’s mentor during her scholarship application journey.
With her heartfelt passion and vision to promote Vietnamese cultural values through the arts and creativity, Phạm Linh Uyên is not only a source of pride for her teachers and peers at Dewey but also a shining example of a new generation — one that dares to dream big, lives with purpose, and takes bold action. Whether as an artist, an arts educator, or a leader of community projects in the future, Uyên will continue to ignite passion and inspire young Vietnamese talents on their path to global integration.
