An opportunity to experience learning and creativity
With the theme “The Dewey Schools Experience Day,” the Open Day event held on May 18 attracted significant interest and participation from parents and students. This event not only provided parents with a deeper understanding of the school’s unique educational philosophy but also offered students the opportunity to engage in creative learning through enriching and engaging lessons at Dewey.
Utilizing advanced learning methods such experiential learning, Inquiry-Based Learning, Project-Based Learning, anddesign thinking, Dewey is committed to creating a dynamic, positive learning environment that fosters holistic development in both physical and creative thinking aspects. The Dewey curriculum is integrated with the program at Mount Vernon School, one of the top 10 most innovative schools in the United States, creating an inspiring learning environment aimed at comprehensive student development.
Through a seminar with the school administration and education experts at The Dewey Schools, as well as participating in one-on-one consultations with the Admissions Department, Parents had the opportunity to have their inquiries regarding teaching methods and the five academic programs at Dewey (Journey International, Adventure International, Discover Integrated, Explore Integrated, and International Baccalaureate) attentively addressed. Additionally, parents gained deeper insights into extracurricular activities and the school’s scholarship policies.
Notably, at this year’s Open Day, TDSers personally guided parents on tours of the school’s facilities. Parents had the chance to listen to sincere and interesting insights from Nguyen Huyen Anh, a student at 12Madrid, about her learning experiences and discoveries at Dewey. Parent Nguyen Hung Cuong shared: “When choosing a school for my child, my family particularly focuses on holistic development and extracurricular programs. After listening to the teachers’ insights, consulting about the academic programs, and experiencing it firsthand, I found that the learning environment at Dewey aligns well with my child’s interests because she is very active, and it’s challenging for her to sit still in traditional classrooms like before.”
Igniting the passion for exploration in students
The Open Day also provided an opportunity for students to experience exciting lessons at Dewey, such as MDE, visual arts, performing arts, English, and Jacpa physical education. Children engaged in activities like gymnastics on the parallel bars, crafting spaceships, decorating paper cups, learning about the significance of colors in cinematography, and more. Do Manh Khuong, a grade 6 student, shared: “I enjoy science and making things, so participating in classes like these is very enjoyable. I’m particularly interested in wood carving activities in the 8th-grade program at school and look forward to experiencing them in the future.”
The Open Day served as an opportunity for parents to gain a deeper understanding of the school’s mission and commitment to building a solid foundation for future generations. Through this, parents gained more confidence in entrusting their children to an educational environment that is open, dynamic, and creative, like Dewey.
