There are literary characters who are centuries old but always live on. So, what would these classic figures say when they meet in the modern era? The Tale of Kiều: Encounters and Dialogues – the 9th-grade literature project by Dewey students – answered that question.

After one month of meticulous preparation, the project opened an incredibly lively and unique Tale of Kiều exhibition space. Each product is a testament to the dexterity, creativity, and love for literature among Dewey students. Engaging interactive areas like Kiều Divination (Bói Kiều), Kiều Quotes (Lẩy Kiều), or Kiều Quizzes (Đố Kiều) became ways for young people to touch this literary heritage, turning knowledge into tangible experiences and spreading a deep love and understanding for this classic work.

The highlight of the program was the stage performance of the reunion between four literary figures: Thúy Kiều, Vũ Nương, Chi Dậu, and Fantine. Each woman is a separate story, a separate life, but they share the same aspiration to take control of their lives and affirm their self-worth. Each segment of Thúy Kiều’s life was cleverly intertwined, from her vows with Kim Trọng to her wandering steps alongside Mã Giám Sinh, Tú Bà, Hồ Tôn Hiến….all of which depicted the unfortunate fate and the respectable beauty of women in the past.

Student Bùi Hải Phong shared, “This project taught me a lot about The Tale of Kiều, about the fate, value, and beauty of many women across different eras, and thus, to cherish the women around me even more.”

The literary gathering concluded, but the understanding of literature, the pride in national cultural and historical values, and many humanistic values have been nurtured in the soul of every student. This is not only an opportunity to take knowledge beyond the pages of a book but also to foster creativity, appreciative capacity, and a special love for literature and art in TDSers.
