“Right foot steps toward father,
Left foot steps toward mother,
One step touches words,
Two steps touch laughter.”
The pure verses of “Speaking to the Child” feel like gentle reminders from parents and an embrace of love, guiding their child through childhood. And now, today, when the child confidently declares, “I’ve Grown Up,” it brings a new wave of happiness to their parents’ hearts, mingled with pride and emotion.
The “I’ve Grown Up” exhibition at Dewey Ocean Park is more than just an event; it’s a journey back through sweet childhood memories. Treasured mementos like tiny shoes, a beloved teddy bear, or a baby bottle – all carefully displayed on the exhibit table – hold precious memories from early years. The moment when the child shyly introduces each item and proudly says, “I don’t use these anymore because I’ve grown up,” moves both parents and teachers alike. The exhibit is filled with laughter and applause as families participate in bonding challenges and answer seemingly simple questions that spark deeper reflections for parents, revealing just how much their child has learned to care for themselves and is now ready to help others.
The most touching moment of “I’ve Grown Up” might be when grandparents and parents watch footage of the child’s early years. Scenes of their first cries, early words, and first lessons at preschool are as clear as an October sky, forever etched in their hearts. Now, wearing the Dewey uniform and stepping confidently into first grade, the child embarks on a new journey, ready to learn countless valuable lessons. In the exhibit space, children sing and dance along to the melody “My Teacher Teaches Me So,” affirming they are prepared for what lies ahead, stepping into their unique journey with confidence.
Ms. Vu Minh Hang, a parent of 1Hanoi student, shared her heartfelt thoughts: “Participating in the I’ve Grown Up exhibition today, I felt deeply moved and grateful to the teachers for organizing such a meaningful event for the children and their families. This exhibition is a precious opportunity for parents to look back on their child’s journey of growth – from infancy to who they are today. Seeing the children so enthusiastic, I want to celebrate each milestone they’ve achieved, hoping they continue to find joy in learning and come home with love and a willingness to help their parents.”
The little badge of “I’ve Grown Up” carefully pinned onto each child’s shirt by grandparents, parents, and teachers, is a heartfelt congratulation and a token of the family and school’s deep trust and love, guiding the child on their journey ahead.
The laughter, the tears, and the love shared by family and teachers at the I’ve Grown Up exhibition will be invaluable memories accompanying the children with each step into the future. May this beautiful memory remain a sweet treasure in their hearts, guiding them through each day on their path of growth.
