The Mid-Autumn Festival is a day that children across the country eagerly await, a time to immerse in the lively drumbeats of the lion dance, carry lanterns, and enjoy the full moon feast with loved ones. However, not every child is fortunate enough to experience such a complete Mid-Autumn celebration. In hospitals, some pediatric patients are still fighting illnesses daily, separated from their families, friends, and schools.
With the desire to spread love and joy to these less fortunate children and offer them a fulfilling Mid-Autumn Festival that eases the pain of illness, the Dewey Tay Ho Tay Community Fund coordinated the organization of a meaningful charity program called “Beloved Mid-Autumn” at E Hospital, Saint Paul Hospital, and the Hanoi Traditional Medicine Hospital.
Over the course of two weeks, teachers, students, and members of the Dewey Community Fund worked together to prepare Mid-Autumn cakes and charming lanterns for the pediatric patients. The classrooms were filled with laughter and chatter as the children joyfully cut, paste, and carefully decorate the gifts.
The Dewey Community Fund donated a total of 425 gift packages to pediatric patients at three hospitals. The sweet and fragrant Mid-Autumn cakes and the adorable lanterns, handmade by TDSers, brought the children a Mid-Autumn Festival filled with love. This charitable activity not only brought joy and warmth to the patients but also provided profound human experiences, fostering a spirit of generosity and nurturing empathy among the TDSers, helping them better understand the values of compassion and community spirit.
Mr. Duong Minh Thang, a representative of the Dewey Community Fund’s Executive Board and a member of the Dewey Parent Association (DPA), shared: “Witnessing the care and affection the medical staff have for the children, we are deeply moved. We extend our sincere thanks to the medical teams at the hospitals for facilitating the Dewey Community Fund’s efforts in organizing a meaningful Mid-Autumn Festival for the pediatric patients. The gifts today are the result of the dedication of the Fund’s members and all the students of our school. We hope that the children in the Pediatric Department have a joyful and warm Mid-Autumn Festival. In the near future, the Dewey Community Fund will continue to spread love, enhance the spirit of generosity of our school, and uphold the traditional Vietnamese value of mutual support through such humanitarian activities.”
The joy of the children is also the happiness of those who carried out the program, making the Mid-Autumn Festival more complete and meaningful. We hope that Dewey’s warm affection and love will inspire the young warriors, helping them remain strong and resilient in their fight against illness and soon return to the loving embrace of their families and friends.
