Strong in the Natural Sciences and naturally drawn to problems that require structured thinking, Huệ Anh (12 Denver – Dewey Tay Ho Tay) may seem like an unexpected choice for a student pursuing Law. For her, however, it is not a change of direction. At the heart of both the subjects she enjoys and the field she has chosen lies the same foundation: logical thinking.
To Huệ Anh, studying Law is not about memorising knowledge mechanically. It is about asking questions, analysing information, looking at an issue from different perspectives and building well-grounded arguments. The more she explored the field, the more she recognised a familiar way of thinking: just as she approaches challenging problems, she wants to go beyond finding an answer to understand the reasoning and principles behind it. This connection helped Huệ Anh define her goals early on and choose Hanoi Law University as her next destination.
Alongside her strengths in Mathematics and the Natural Sciences, Huệ Anh also achieved a score of 8 in Literature in the recent National High School Graduation Examination. The result gave her further confidence that analytical thinking and language skills can complement one another: one helps her examine an issue with clarity and precision, while the other allows her to express ideas clearly and persuasively. Together, these skills provide a strong foundation as she begins her journey in Law and explores the many possibilities ahead.
This confidence was gradually built through Huệ Anh’s learning experiences at Dewey. Once a rather reserved student, she found herself giving presentations almost every week, learning to organise her ideas, articulate her thoughts and defend her views with reasoned arguments. With each presentation, she also became more comfortable listening to different perspectives, evaluating information and staying composed when faced with opinions that differed from her own.
Her time at Dewey also helped nurture a strong sense of self-motivation. Encouraged to explore, question and follow her curiosity, Huệ Anh gradually came to see learning as an opportunity for discovery rather than simply a task to complete. Along the way, the support of her teachers, especially Ms. Nguyet, her Literature and Vietnamese teacher, helped her gain greater confidence in a subject that had not always been one of her strongest areas.
From a student who loved solving challenging problems to a freshman at Hanoi Law University, Huệ Anh is entering this new chapter with the qualities that have always shaped her: curiosity, structured thinking and a determination to get to the heart of an issue. Her foundation in the Natural Sciences, growing language skills and the confidence developed at Dewey will continue to complement one another, giving her the perspective and independence to explore new possibilities through her journey in Law.
