If every Global Explorer were a true adventurer, then each day at camp would be another expedition filled with discoveries. And after every challenge, every workshop, and every new experience, the young explorers returned with their very own “treasures” — not hidden deep in forests or beneath the ocean, but created by their own hands, imagination, and curiosity.
Every creation reflected a journey of hands-on learning beyond the traditional classroom. Some days, our young artists carefully transformed bamboo hats and woven trays into colorful works of art, orcrafted beautiful shell-and-sand paintings inspired by the sea. On other days, they became little scientists, building cardboard binoculars, designing miniature aquariums, and experimenting with excitingSTEAM projects. And as evening approached, family dinner tables were brightened with homemade pizzas, sweet cupcakes, and flavorful kimchi lovingly prepared by the young chefs themselves.
Behind every “treasure” was a meaningful lesson. Every pizza taught patience. Every model encouraged creative thinking and problem-solving. Every handmade craft helped little hands become moreskillful while giving imagination the freedom to flourish. These creations were more than souvenirs to take home—they became lasting reminders of joyful experiences, growing confidence, and the exciting discoveries made throughout the summer.
The greatest treasure of Global Explorers Camp has never been the products themselves, but the journey each child experienced while creating them. The Dewey Schools believes that when children aregiven the freedom to explore, create, and learn through real experiences, every day becomes an opportunity to grow, and every “treasure” becomes a milestone on their journey of discovering themselves.
