The outstanding results achieved in this year’s public high school entrance exam are a testament to the strong academic foundation of Dewey Hai Phong students. Despite studying in an American-standard bilingual international environment, more than 80% of our Grade 9 students who sat for the public high school entrance exam scored over 20 out of 30 across the three core subjects—Literature, Mathematics, and English—with many earning perfect 10s.
In recent years, high school entrance examinations have increasingly focused on assessing critical thinking, knowledge application, and problem-solving skills rather than simple memorization. To excel in these exams, students need a deep understanding of concepts, the ability to connect knowledge across disciplines, and the confidence to apply what they have learned in new contexts. These are exactly the competencies that Dewey nurtures every day through project-based learning, authentic experiences, and the cultivation of independent learning habits. Luu Xuan The Hung (Class 9 Lisbon), who achieved perfect scores of 10 in both Mathematics and English, shared that he did not attend any private tutoring outside school. Instead, he developed the habit of reviewing and organizing his knowledge independently, identifying areas for improvement, and deepening his understanding. This disciplined approach enabled him to enter the exam feeling confident and fully prepared.
