“If we impose higher moral standards on public figures simply because they have a large following, doesn’t that create an unequal society—one in which certain individuals lose the right to make mistakes merely because they are successful?”
A series of pressing contemporary issues—the influence of public figures in the digital age, the fine line between expectation and judgment, and between admiration and blind idolization—were placed on the debate table by TDS students. As they candidly shared their perspectives on these “thorny” topics, each argument and example revealed the sharp critical thinking and rich social awareness of Dewey students.

WHAT IS THE “SECRET WEAPON” THAT ENABLES DEWEY IB STUDENTS TO EXCEL IN EVERY DEBATE ARENA CONFIDENTLY?
A STRONG MULTILINGUAL FOUNDATION
With 80% of learning conducted in English and 20% in Vietnamese/Spanish, Dewey students use foreign languages as tools for thinking and discovery. This solid foundation empowers them to articulate viewpoints clearly, respond flexibly, and debate with confidence on international platforms.
A COMPREHENSIVE ACADEMIC PROGRAM
Through the three core components of the IB—CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service), the Extended Essay (EE), and Theory of Knowledge (TOK)—students develop critical thinking, research skills, the ability to question assumptions, and the capacity for multi-perspective analysis. These are essential competencies of outstanding debaters and are highly valued by leading universities such as Harvard, Cambridge, and Boston.
KNOWLEDGE WITHOUT CONSTRAINTS
IB students actively choose subjects aligned with their personal pathways across six subject groups: Studies in Language & Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals & Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and the Arts. With an interdisciplinary, in-depth academic foundation comparable to first-year university level, students confidently construct sharp arguments and persuasive evidence for any debate topic.
NO DISCONNECT BETWEEN ACADEMICS AND REAL LIFE
IB students regularly engage in extracurricular activities, community projects, and social initiatives. These experiences help them approach issues through lived experience and empathy, strengthening collaboration, responsibility, and a form of critical thinking enriched with humanistic depth.
