SCIENCE MDE FAIR 2024 โ€“ CREATIVE โ€œPLAYGROUNDโ€ OF FUTURE SCIENTISTS โš—๐Ÿ”ฌ

๐Ÿ’ก TDSers had a special weekend with their parents and friends at the โ€œLab of Mad Scientistโ€ โ€“ Science MDE Fair 2024.

ย 

Entering the โ€œLab,โ€ TDSers encountered teachers who were โ€œboth strange and familiarโ€ dressed in unique โ€œmad scientistโ€ costumes. The school grounds were filled with scientific and MDE products โ€œmade by TDSersโ€ throughout the semester. Whatโ€™s more, TDSers were guided by these โ€œmad scientistsโ€ to 14 exciting Experience Stations, where they could explore the joy of science through unique experiments such as: Descartes Diver, robot programming, spinning eggs, mirror mazes, mysterious magnetic mazes, bubbles within bubbles, dancing popcorn, rainbow showers, and more. Student Nguyen Sinh Phu from 5Boston declared, โ€œI never thought science could be so interesting. I am determined to become a scientist in the future!โ€

๐Ÿ”ฌIn addition to moments of learning and play, TDSers also had the opportunity to showcase their problem-solving skills and scientific creativity at the Science Competition 2024. TDSers confidently presented products created through the Design Thinking method, which were highly praised by the judging panel, such as: self-lacing shoes using sensors (6th grade students), an automatic house cleaning machine (3rd grade students), and the Daily Eco mobile application (11th grade students),โ€ฆ

Moreover, alongside these three innovative ideas, students also conducted and presented 16 interesting experiments in English during the fair. Each experiment demonstrated a unique perspective of TDSers on seemingly minor issues in life, such as the direction of wind between buildings or generating electricity from fruits.

โ“Another favorite place for TDSers is the canteen, where the Science Quiz Bowls 2024 take place โ€“ an opportunity for TDSers to showcase their knowledge through intriguing questions about science.

ย 

Tran Ngoc Khanh, a student from 8Canberra, shares, โ€œBoth the Quiz Bowl and the Creative Science Competition are very enjoyable experiences for me. I learn from my peers, enhance my presentation skills, and acquire new knowledge about science. I am very happy with this Science MDE Fair.โ€

ย 

The Science MDE Fair is a major annual event at The Dewey Schools. It is an interdisciplinary project focusing on science and MDE, where students present their academic achievements in both subjects, as well as stimulate curiosity and foster a love for science and innovation in each student.

Dear Parents,

We all know that schools have a great impact on the transformation of each individual and the whole society. In order to be successful in this ever-changing world, schools are not merely a place for students to acquire knowledge or study literacy, math and science. The Dewey Schools is an inter-level school named after the philosopher John Dewey, the modern father of experiential education. At Dewey, we encourage experiential education through student-centered learning. Learning activities are organized with the methods: โ€˜learning by doingโ€™, project-based learning, inquiry-based learning, and design thinking which promote comprehensive development in terms of knowledge, skills, social-emotional well-being and further promote an inquiring mind.

The Dewey Schoolsโ€™ educational philosophy is to inspire studentsโ€™ growth through the learner-centered approach, which encourages self-education, and assists them in becoming individuals who are independent, responsible, and fulfilled with an inquisitive mind and a love for lifelong learning.

School Governance Consultant

Dr. David A. Wells (EdD) is a Co-Founder, Principal, and Executive Consultant for GLOBAL School Consulting Group, an international consulting and training firm serving schools and organizations around the global with twenty-four affiliated consultants and six partner companies providing educational services.

Dr. Wells is also an affiliated consultant, approved and authorized by CIS to provide services for CIS members schools in governance, strategic planning, leadership training, and recruitment. He is also a former Executive Consultant and Vice President of PAIDEIA, Inc. David has provided consulting and training to approximately one hundred schools and organizations in forty countries over the past ten years. Dr. Wells began working with The Dewey Schools as an international consultant early in 2019.

From the beginning, David was attracted and challenged by the school systemโ€™s vision and the Board of Directorsโ€™ commitment to impact Vietnam by developing and offering a world-class educational experience for Dewey students. One of the major tasks of his work has been the development of a School Board โ€“ to lead and govern the school system according to a governance model built on international best practices and aligned with the business model of The Dewey Schools.

Another major endeavor has been the development and implementation of a strategic planning framework for the school system, encompassing and aligning both school development goals and improvement goals โ€“ a project which will provide direction and context for system growth and improvement from the next five years.

โ€“ Nearly 30 years of experience in Education: Academic leader, teacher, homeroom teacher
โ€“ Nearly 20 years of experience in studying modern and effective teaching methods, educational philosophy, and methodology; designing curriculum; writing High-school coursebooks, workbooks, and reference books, especially Math books; writing subject teaching plans; providing training on lesson plan design and teaching practices.

Educational belief:
High-level education brings students comprehensive PHYSICAL AND MENTAL development. The subject knowledge content delivered to students must be in line with the society in which they were born and raised. The schoolโ€™s teaching method is the method of a modern school, accordingly, knowledge is considered as a product each student must create by themselves through a TASK system. Each of the TASKS entails a manipulating sequence with strict order that enables anyone to accomplish, then create their product with a minumum time amount. The golden rule of the schoolโ€™s pedagogy is โ€˜not to give students ready-made products, but instead, they have to create the thing they need themselvesโ€™. Rather than compare one student with another, high-level education considers each student as an independent individual who is respected and can develop safely. The fundamental goal of high-level education is to enable students to solve real-life problems as much as possible, which benefits their ability to self-study and self-improve.
