Continuing the successful “journey” of the previous school year, Mount Vernon School- recognized as one of the top 10 most innovative schools in the United States in 2017 – has returned to The Dewey Schools this year to “forge” the bond between the students of the two schools.
Visiting Dewey on a rainy day, yet the enthusiasm of the American visitors remains undiminished. Serving as “tour guides,” Dewey Tay Ho Tay Student Council (DSC) led their new friends through many exciting “emotional stages.” At each stop, Minh Thu (11Berlin) and Trung Kien (10Budapest) passionately narrated the history and culture of The Dewey Schools, offering the American visitors a fresh and captivating perspective on Dewey.
Conversely, thanks to the valuable insights shared by students from MVS, TDSers also gained a deeper understanding of the culture, learning environment, and life in the United States, thereby gaining a realistic view of life as future international students. Alongside vibrant cultural exchange performances and lively mini-games, the friendly basketball match between students of both schools also fostered unforgettable moments. The healthy competition and the spirit of “fair play” provided valuable opportunities for young participants to learn and grow.
Kate Dawson, a student from Mount Vernon School, eagerly expressed, “I would say that I was very excited to visit TDS and to see others students near my age. I think the most impress parts of TDS would be the amazing facilities and also the great presentations from the students. For the favorite activity I would say it was the Kahoot about was a fun way to explore other cultures while working with TDS students. It was awesome!“
The highlight of the journey was the conical hat painting activity, a traditional Vietnamese cultural experience that left a lasting impression on MVS students, who found it delightful and fascinating. Through this visit, MVS-ers had the opportunity to experience and develop a deeper appreciation for the beauty of Vietnam.
As the visit drew to a close, every member of the delegation felt a sense of nostalgia. The warmth and friendliness of TDS students left an indelible mark on the minds of every MVS student, creating unforgettable moments and strengthening the bond between the two communities of students from opposite ends of the earth. Farewell to the Mount Vernon School delegation, and here’s to hoping for a reunion in the upcoming school year!
