School safety is one criterion of great importance at The Dewey Schools (TDS). This is also the most strictly-required item in the Evaluation Framework of the Council of International Schools (CIS) upon TDS being accredited by this organization.
Therefore, from the first week of the new school year, TDSers at Tay Ho Tay have been training and practicing critical content related to school safety under detailed instructions of professional teachers:
️⛳HALLWAY SAFETY: Students learn about how to safely move around in the areas outside the classroom, such as in the corridor or in the hall. Students are to go on their right side and leave the left side for people going the opposite direction or being in a hurry. Running, making loud noise, or pushing is allowed in the corridor. Students are also instructed on how to properly use an elevator at school as well as the exit in case of emergencies.
️⛳FIRST AID IN SCHOOLS: The lesson of first aid is organized for all the students, covering all basic knowledge to handle cases of incidentally bleeding, nosebleed, burns, drowning, stomachache, and bone fracture. Injuries from accidents will be minimized if students know how to protect themselves, and wounds won’t get serious if they know how to do first aid. The lesson provides all TDSers with the skill to recognize and deal with incidents, reducing potential health risks at school.
️⛳ BUS SAFETY: Safety on the road when students travel on the school bus is another matter of significant importance. Students are instructed on how to get on/off the bus and get seated without pushing or messing, how to safely fasten the seatbelt, what to do in case of emergency, as well as the use of the emergency hammer.
️⛳ PRACTICE ON FIRE SAFETY: In case of a fire inside a building, students must not be panic, but try to follow fire safety instructions of teachers to get to the safe area.
“Students are all excited joining this lesson of safety, especially the school bus safety practice. After the lesson, they now know the location of and how to use emergency items on the vehicle. This is a critical skill and valuable knowledge for them to actively protect themselves and help others in case of any incident.” – said Ms. Do Thi Huong Thao the instructor.
We believe that, The Dewey Schools is not only a high quality environment for learning, but also like a second home for students to freely express themselves, to be well taken care of, and to enjoy each day at school to their heart’s content.
