Last week, the 11Orlando TDSers enjoyed an engaging biology lesson on hydroponic plant propagation techniques. Starting with seedlings they nurtured by hand, they practiced propagating plants in growth mediums, preparing nutrient solutions, and balancing them effectively. Through this activity, the students grasped essential tips for growing healthy hydroponic plants: supplying adequate and timely essential minerals and ensuring proper temperature and light for photosynthesis.
Experiential learning is a core philosophy at The Dewey Schools. Instead of absorbing knowledge passively through textbooks, TDSers engage in a variety of hands-on activities crafted by teachers, such as projects, assignments, and games. These experiences allow them to draw their own insights and spark a love for learning and discovery. Real-world learning also helps stimulate creative and critical thinking, while developing soft skills like communication, teamwork, and time management.
Let’s take a look back at the experiences of these Dewey “biologists” during their recent lesson!
