On their journey to explore and shape career paths, many students face uncertainties about their future choices. To alleviate these concerns, the University and Career Counseling Office (UCCO) organized a series of diverse career guidance events for TDSers in grades 10-12. These events provided TDSers with the opportunity to engage with experienced faculty members and top experts from prestigious universities worldwide.
Let’s take a look back at some of the outstanding career guidance activities held this past October!
Demo Class: Psychology Class by Wilfrid Laurier University
In this experiential class, Dr. Bruce McKay, Head of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and a Psychology professor at Wilfrid Laurier University, explored the complex structure and functions of the human brain, analyzing biological mechanisms related to brain injuries and recovery processes. TDSers also learned about common conditions such as stroke, brain tumors, and Alzheimer’s disease, along with current treatment methods. The session offered TDSers an engaging and visual insight into the fields of Biology and Psychology.
Workshop: Exploring the world of STEAM at Ontario Tech University (Canada)
Led by Brent Seton, Regional Market Development Manager at Ontario Tech University (UOIT), TDSers had the opportunity to explore the world of STEAM through advanced disciplines in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The university representative emphasized that all programs at UOIT focus on building students’ knowledge and skills while providing strong career orientation. Courses are designed to keep pace with the latest industry trends and adapt to the rapid development of the digital age, contributing to Ontario Tech’s status as one of Canada’s top universities for graduate employment.
Workshop: Learning about key programs at Monash University (Australia)
TDSers joined three professors from the Faculties of Art & Design, Business, and Computer Science to learn about the outstanding programs at Monash University. Monash’s leading programs in science, technology, and business are developed with state-of-the-art facilities, advanced learning spaces, and a professional research environment. The class also provided information on scholarship opportunities, international exchange, and internships at Monash, helping students prepare more effectively for future careers in a globalized environment.
Workshop: Exploring transferable skills with an expert from the Pacific International Hotel Management School (New Zealand)
Led by James Cunningham, Deputy General Manager of the Pacific International Hotel Management School (PIHMS), the workshop focused on developing transferable skills, which can be flexibly applied across various roles and industries. TDSers were guided in identifying key skills like communication, time management, and problem-solving, while gaining a deeper understanding of their value in enhancing employability. With practical content, students were equipped with solid skills to navigate a highly competitive and ever-changing job market.
Hoang Minh, a student from 12Austin, shared: “These classes have helped me gain a clearer perspective on my career aspirations. Meeting faculty from prestigious universities and experiencing new knowledge has boosted my confidence in selecting a field of study and shaping my future path.”
