In November, the management team of The Dewey Schools participated in an intensive training course on “Transformational Leaders” under the guidance of Dr. David Wells, the President of the School Board. Dr. Wells also serves as a consultant approved and authorized by the Council of International Schools (CIS) to provide strategic planning and leadership development services for CIS members.
The training activities implemented by The Dewey Schools’ Executive Board aim to build a management team with proactive managerial skills and the ability to clearly communicate goals, providing strong inspiration for their colleagues. The in-depth training sessions have provided opportunities for Dewey’s management at various levels to access the knowledge and experience of Dr. David Wells in this field. Through rigorous discussions and interactions, Dewey’s management team has gained insights into key principles of organizational structure, principles of authority and responsibility, principles of supervision and accountability, the four elements in the transformative leadership model, and the five essential soft skills for leadership within this model.
In addition to the training sessions, Dr. David Wells has also conducted coaching sessions to create a direct and open dialogue space for interactive discussions about the acquired knowledge. These discussions are approached from the practical perspective of the school’s leadership team, exploring how to apply the transformative leadership model in the specific context of each participant’s work. This approach enables each manager to enhance their leadership skills, achieve higher goals, and bring about more positive changes to the educational environment at The Dewey Schools, specifically, and to the education sector in Vietnam as a whole. Furthermore, these training activities serve as effective connectors of knowledge and skills among individuals within Dewey’s management team, fostering increased consensus and commitment within the group. This, in turn, guides the collective toward achieving breakthrough goals with strong determination and the utmost positive energy.
Ms. Tara Jean Castles, the DP Coordinator, enthusiastically shared her thoughts after participating in the training session: “Today, I had the opportunity to learn about management and leadership, and I found Dr. Wells provided very detailed examples and advice on how to become an effective manager and teacher. He emphasized the need for positive management, recognizing that each teacher needs to manage in a different and unique way—no two individuals are alike. After the session, we all feel energized with a very positive outlook.”
Dewey takes pride in being granted the opportunity to access resources and top experts like Dr. David Wells. The strong, continuous investment and clear roadmap in the training of The Dewey Schools’ personnel have affirmed the school’s commitment to providing a high-quality learning and management environment, pioneering in the education of Students to become global citizens, and building a better future for the community.
