“I believe that each of us is special in our way, with hidden potential waiting to be unlocked, just like the character Jenkins in the story “Has Anyone Seen Jessica Jenkins”. She appears to be an ordinary girl, yet possesses a miraculous power. Courage, daring to be different, and breaking through will transform ordinary people into extraordinary ones.”
These are the reflections of young student Nguyen Khanh Chi (6Manchester). Her story mirrors the journey of discovering Jessica Jenkins’ special abilities – a colorful and experiential adventure.
Contrary to her quiet and shy appearance, Khanh Chi’s mind is a vibrant and rich world. She impresses with her English proficiency and her talent for writing. Her love for language came naturally through reading. As an introverted girl, Khanh Chi always finds happiness when immersed in books. She shared that, like magical doors, books open up new worlds where she can live with the characters and experience a full range of emotions.
At the age of 6, Khanh Chi began writing short stories, drawing inspiration from the magical worlds of famous works such as Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and others. She aspires to create her own enchanted world, where characters discover their strengths through overcoming countless challenges. To date, Khanh Chi has completed 11 works, the most successful of which is her English novel “Magic Runs Wild”, published globally by Ukiyoto Publishing in Canada. The book conveys the message that what matters is not the strength of the power you possess, but how you use it to help others. “Magic Runs Wild” is also a touching story about friendship and courage.
Having successfully earned the IB scholarship, Khanh Chi’s passion is being nurtured every day at Dewey. She expresses her excitement and enthusiasm for Literature and Humanities. Dewey is where she is free to be creative and showcase her unique personality. “Instead of asking us to memorize works, the teachers at Dewey create opportunities for us to experience literature ourselves, without restricting our thinking or literary interpretation within fixed frameworks. Every week, we choose a book and write our reflections on it. Actively absorbing knowledge makes me more excited to explore a work.” Khanh Chi also shared that Dewey’s international environment helps her develop both her language skills and critical thinking. In the near future, she hopes to have more opportunities to freely explore her creativity through the school’s literary projects.
Behind Khanh Chi’s success is strong support from her family, especially her mother – who has inspired and instilled a love of reading in her. Her mother was also her first reader, always supporting Khanh Chi’s short stories since she first picked up a pen. Her mother’s encouragement is the motivation that pushes her to improve every day. Khanh Chi is always eager to learn about new ideas and themes. Every day, she dedicates 30 minutes before bed to reading. Khanh Chi shared that reading not only helps her expand her English vocabulary and improve her grammar but also teaches her how to develop characters and plots.
Although she aspires to become a lawyer in the future, Khanh Chi will continue to pursue her passion for writing, sharing many more fascinating stories with readers. With her talent and perseverance, we wish Khanh Chi’s creative passion will continue to shine brightly as she “beyond the blueprint, mapping your own way” at Dewey.
