Recently, at the screening of the graduation projects from W Media Camp, the short film “Green” by the group “Xanh hơn Everybody” (Greener Everybody) made a strong impression with its meaningful message and unique, creative approach, winning the Best Work Award as chosen by the judges.
Recognizing that plastic waste pollution is a pressing issue, TDSers came up with the idea. They developed a short film screenplay to convey a message about environmental protection. Tran Nghia Dung (8Perth, The Dewey Schools Tay Ho Tay) – the group’s editor, shared: “This is a highly community-oriented topic. Through this short film, we hope to raise community awareness and encourage collective action for a greener environment. Protecting the environment is also protecting ourselves.”
It was the first time the young filmmakers experienced making a short film, and they faced several challenges. Nghia Dung mentioned that while it took only two days to complete the script, preparing props, selecting locations, and timing the shoot consumed a considerable amount of time. “Since some scenes were shot outdoors, we were quite worried about the bad weather in Hanoi, as it rained heavily for a whole week. Fortunately, on the day of the shoot, we breathed a sigh of relief as the sun came out. During the process, there were moments of disagreement among group members. The short time we had to get to know each other was also a significant challenge for us in achieving smooth coordination.” Le Khanh Hoa (9Wellington, The Dewey Schools Cau Giay), the group’s director, added.
Despite these challenges, with effort, unity, creativity, and a desire to learn, the members of Xanh hon Everybody created a piece they were proud of. “Personally, I feel this isn’t a perfect work, but I’m proud because all the members tried their best. Even when we were missing some scenes and had to improvise at the last minute, the spirit of teamwork helped us work together more effectively,” Nghia Dung noted.
Dynamic, energetic, and full of enthusiasm are the impressions of the Xanh Than Everybody group by Dr. Nguyen Nga Huyen, a Marketing Communication Lecturer at the School of Business – Vietnam National University, Hanoi. “The students always respected each other’s contributions during discussions to find the right direction for their work. They were proactive in their tasks and deadlines, and they knew how to turn difficulties into real ‘fun.’ Although there were some missing elements to achieve a perfect score, I highly appreciate their cooperative attitude and mutual support. This is a significant factor that defines an excellent work and is also a proud achievement for the whole group,” Ms. Nga Huyen remarked.
W Media Camp provided unforgettable experiences for the members of Xanh hon Everybody. Their journey in exploring journalism and communication became more meaningful thanks to the companionship and connection of individuals who share the same passion and enthusiasm. “At W Media Camp, we were not only guided by seasoned experts but also had the opportunity to learn from other groups throughout the creative process. We supported each other to create impressive media products!” Khanh Hoa shared.
