Globalization trends and the importance of the younger generation
The trend of globalization is progressing vigorously, creating connections between nations and diverse cultures regardless of geographical distance. In this context, educating the younger generation becomes incredibly important, as they are the ones who will face and resolve global challenges while seizing new opportunities. Therefore, “Global Citizenship” at The Dewey Schools is one of the key educational components teachers focus on as the new school year 2024 – 2025 approaches.
Global citizens are those who have the ability to understand and appreciate cultural diversity, know how to communicate and work effectively in multicultural environments, and possess a sense of responsibility for global issues such as the environment, social justice, and human rights. To achieve this goal, the content of the course must equip students with diverse knowledge, soft skills, and critical thinking abilities, helping them adapt and thrive in an ever-changing international environment.
The important role of educators
At this point, teachers not only play the role of experts but also need to be individuals capable of conveying and connecting this knowledge with global issues such as climate change, social inequality, poverty, and more. Teachers must know how to use diverse and creative teaching methods to help students understand and apply this knowledge in practice. During professional training, teachers will delve into specific situations, engage in discussions, and critique each other professionally to gain objective, multi-dimensional perspectives for building lesson content. As a result, students will expand their knowledge of different cultures and become aware of their role in addressing global issues.
Sharing more about the Global Citizenship Training Course, Dr. Do Ngoc Khanh, Associate Professor of Psychology and Head of the Life & Arts Department at the Educational Research and Pedagogical Council (ERPC), stated: “The goal of the training course is to help teachers gain a comprehensive understanding of the Global Citizenship curriculum for the academic year and clarify new content changes introduced annually. In the 2024 – 2025 school year, Dewey has made commitments to high-quality teaching, requiring teachers to thoroughly understand their subjects and teaching methods to help students access the course and acquire essential skills. The course content is tailored to different age groups to ensure that the knowledge students gain is truly effective. Additionally, I will regularly attend classes to grasp the actual teaching situation, providing specific and timely feedback to teachers to support them in improving their teaching methods and adjusting content to meet students’ needs.”
At The Dewey Schools, students broaden their understanding of important issues in Vietnam and around the world, equipping themselves with the necessary skills and qualities to make a positive impact on the community. The school believes that education is not only about imparting knowledge but also about nurturing a generation of global citizens with critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to adapt and work with people from diverse cultures and countries.
