Joining the vibrant atmosphere of July at Dewey, TDSers marked an unforgettable summer by independently organizing and operating a “super cool” Basketball Summer Camp, igniting a passion for sports and a deep love for the round ball.
The original idea of Basketball Club
Since early March 2024, members of the basketball club at Dewey have been nurturing the idea of a dynamic and exciting summer camp. Thach Do Hoang Anh, a 10Budapest student and President of the Basketball Club at Dewey, shared: “I am very happy to have connected with the team members to plan and build a basketball summer camp for TDSers. This activity is a tribute to the school and demonstrates our determination to nurture and spread a love for sports and basketball to younger students. We hope they will learn many new skills, develop their thinking, and be exposed to various great basketball playing styles. Most importantly, the camaraderie and bond formed during basketball practice sessions will help students create beautiful memories and have memorable experiences.”
Taking on the role of coach and inspiring and instilling a love for basketball in the trainees for the first time, Dewey interns also faced many difficulties and challenges. Hoang Anh noted that club members spent a considerable amount of time preparing lesson plans and teaching programs. Basketball has many levels, and each level requires selecting suitable exercises. This task demands a detailed and methodical plan, along with advice and support from the school’s professional coaches.
The determination spirit of every members
The project of organizing and operating a basketball summer camp was born out of the dedication and determined, “dare to think, dare to do” spirit of the team members. Through connecting and coordinating with the school administration and directly coaching the campers on the court, TDSers had the opportunity to cultivate and nurture the qualities of global citizens: openness, care, sharing, and a strong community spirit. “By initiating and operating this summer camp project, we have come to understand the value of hard work, appreciate the efforts and contributions of each individual within a team, and develop the leadership mindset,” shared Hoang Anh.
“Instead of doing grandiose things, the students chose to contribute back to their own school, which we always appreciate. We are extremely proud of them. Most of the team members have achieved high results in various competitions and have extensive experience on the court. The best way to learn is to teach others. I believe the students will also learn a lot and gain career orientation for themselves after this project,” said Nguyen Trong Tung, Career and University Advisor at Dewey.
The 2024 Basketball Summer Camp is not only a fun and exciting playground but also a place where TDSers can ignite their passion for sports and contribute to the future development of basketball in Vietnam. With meaningful and practical activities, the 2024 Basketball Summer Camp promises to be a summer full of wonderful experiences for the campers. Let’s join TDSers in exploring the vibrant and exciting world of basketball!
