After two years as an IB Candidate School, The Dewey Schools Tay Ho Tay has officially become an IB World School authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) for Students of Grade 11 and 12.
The title of IB World School not only attests to the quality of education at The Dewey Schools Tay Ho Tay but also marks a milestone in their commitment to providing a comprehensive educational environment. This achievement aims to deliver an international standard educational experience to future generations of Vietnamese Students.
The IB DP evaluation process took place over two days, March 25th and 26th, 2024, at The Dewey Schools Tay Ho Tay, with the participation of two experienced education experts from the IB Organization – Mr. Huiling Yu and Ms. Amira Dzulkafli. The IB Organization assessed the school based on the Standards and Practices of the IB DP to determine its eligibility to become an IB World School.
The IB Organization consistently sets rigorous standards, requiring schools to comply with and meet these criteria to be officially authorized to teach the academically challenging IB programs. The school goes through six stages before being officially recognized as an IB World School. Reflecting on the journey from the initial application to offer the IB DP, Mr. Nguyen Bao Trong, Head of the IB Program, recalls the challenges and lessons learned by the entire IB team at Dewey: “Throughout the period as a Candidate School for the IB DP and IB MYP, the school continuously strove to review and improve based on the recommendations of IB experts to meet the stringent standards set by the IB Organization. With regular monthly meetings with IB experts, the team at Dewey actively sought consultation, participated in comprehensive training courses, closely followed the authorization progress, and organized internal training sessions at the school to enhance professional capacity. Despite the challenges that took months to resolve, the goal of providing an internationally standardized educational environment for students has “ignited the passion” in the entire school team to make improvements that meet the stringent standards set by the IB Organization.”
The result of the school’s persistent efforts is a quality evaluation report from the IB Organization. The Dewey Schools Tay Ho Tay has met all the stringent criteria and requirements of the IB Organization, which includes over 80 standards and practices across various categories: mission, orientation, educational philosophy; the competency of the leadership team, teachers, and staff; curriculum and teaching materials; facilities; student life and the school community, etc.
According to the report from the IB Organization, The Dewey Schools Tay Ho Tay was highly evaluated for:
- Its commitment to pursuing and implementing the IB DP, demonstrated by building an experienced leadership and professional team that has fully participated in IB professional training courses; and preparing adequate resources and financial support necessary for program implementation.
- The school’s facilities and classroom equipment meet the diverse learning needs of students enrolled in the IB program.
- The curriculum content, which the school has meticulously researched and developed to provide students with a broad perspective, ensuring both academic quality and international-mindedness.
The assessments from the IB Organization clearly demonstrate the commitment of the Leadership, Teachers, and staff at Dewey to the Parent and Student community, consistently working to realize the school’s vision: To become a pioneering educational system delivering world-class education. Becoming an IB World School reflects the alignment in core educational foundations that both the school and the IB Organization strive towards: “Helping Students become inquisitive global citizens who understand and respect cultures, show care and empathy, and are ready to create a better world.”
