Not only do they inspire TDSers on their journey of knowledge exploration, but it is also their warmth, willingness to listen, and deep understanding that make Dewey teachers trusted “big friends” to their students.
Famous for her playful phrase “copying as punishment”, Ms. Binh An, a Literature Vietnamese teacher, is also known for her creative and endearing ways of guiding students to correct their mistakes. “Ms. Binh An has a Doraemon-shaped stamp. Whenever we behave well or complete our assignments nicely, she stamps our notebooks. These stamps can help reduce penalties if we accidentally break a rule. For example, if we have a disagreement with a friend, the “punishment” is a hug or a handshake. If we litter, we have to clean the classroom thoroughly.” – Ha An (9Eger) shared. Beyond her unique approach to discipline, Ms. Binh An is also known as the “keeper of secrets,” entrusted with countless heartfelt confessions from TDSers.
Also ranking among the most trusted teachers, Ms. Nguyen Thu Hang, homeroom teacher of class 5Karan, is affectionately called “Mother Hằng” by her students. She always encourages them to share their thoughts and is willing to spend extra time outside of class to listen to their concerns.
Not only are they strong pillars of support, but when it comes to the image of an “all-knowing professor,” TDSers immediately think of familiar names like Mr. Michael, Mr. Tung, and Mr. Nick.
The first impression students have of Mr. Michael Shawn Leonard, a Mathematics teacher, is his friendliness, openness, and, most notably, his ten brightly painted fingernails. He shares that this is his way of sparking curiosity and encouraging students to start conversations with him. Mr. Michael is the idol of 6Manchester TDSers, admired for his vast knowledge and his willingness to answer any question, whether it’s about Mathematics, Science, or even Psychology. As the homeroom teacher of an International Baccalaureate (IB) class – home to some of the school’s top-performing students – Mr. Michael never puts undue pressure on academic achievements. Instead, he always encourages open conversations, ensuring his students feel comfortable and supported.
Equally a source of pride for 9Cannes TDSers, Mr. Nicholas Allen Stevens (Mr. Nick), a Humanities teacher, continuously impresses students with his deep knowledge and remarkable ability to connect theoretical concepts to diverse aspects of real-life situations. While Mr. Michael and Mr. Nick are the ones who inspire and ignite TDSers’ passion for learning, Mr. Trong Tung – the Career Guidance Counselor – stands as a trusted companion on their journey toward the future.
Famous for his slogan “Just do it,” Mr. Tung constantly encourages students to step out of their comfort zones, gain firsthand experiences, explore their passions, and accumulate valuable life lessons. Whether after school or even on weekends, he dedicates his time to helping TDSers build confidence and equip themselves with the necessary knowledge before stepping into important exams.
With unwavering dedication to their profession and wholehearted commitment to students, Dewey teachers continuously motivate and instill confidence in TDSers as they navigate their path to growth. Thanks to these extraordinary “big friends,” every school day becomes a meaningful experience—where students can be themselves, nurture their passions, and embrace a lifelong love for learning.
