Surprising and captivating, brimming with enthusiasm and passion, parents will find these qualities in the extraordinary journey of TDS-ers as they embark on establishing, operating, and disseminating community projects. Beyond offering innovative perspectives on social and global issues, practical solutions for the community, TDS-ers invite parents into an emotional adventure. Here, students learn to mature from failures, courageously face challenges, and unabashedly share their unsuccessful attempts.
Just a few days left, the “Community projects” are set to take center stage. During these days, teachers and students of the IB program are actively rehearsing to deliver an outstanding performance at the presentation. According to Mr. Tate Lamoreaux – a companion in the “Community Projects” journey since its inception, students began brainstorming project ideas in October 2023, gradually developing and implementing them to the present day. Mr. Tate shared: “The biggest challenge for students is finding a topic they are truly passionate about. This process can take months. Many students have pondered, ‘What topic do I truly love?’ ‘Who in the community should I focus on and help?'”
However, through enthusiasm, relentless exploration, and discovery, TDS-ers have excelled, bringing captivating and humanitarian topics. From book donation projects to raising awareness about diabetes in schools to simulating the United Nations’ operations, each project bears its unique imprint, distinctly showcasing the “Learning by doing” spirit of TDS-ers.
Despite lingering concerns and nervousness about the impending presentation, excitement and optimism radiate from the students’ faces. “I hope you don’t get too nervous and speak too fast during the final presentation. Even if there is a failure, it’s okay because you’ll still learn a lot about presentation skills. I hope you realize that the greatest thing when you are at school is the opportunity to actualize action, to fail, and to learn from those stumbles.” These are the words of encouragement and reassurance that Mr. Tate conveyed to his students for the upcoming presentation.
