The sun shines sweetly like glistening honey. The sky is adorned with burning red of the flamboyant flowers, heralding the arrival of a vibrant summer at The Dewey Schools. It’s a time when teachers and students of the Elementary School come together, bustling with anticipation, preparing for the Year End Showcase – a special event eagerly awaited by all.
Instead of traditional paper tests and numeric evaluations, the year-end showcase for TDS-ers from Grades 1 to 5 will be a creative one through various forms such as hosting, drama performances, creating Haiku poems, and engaging in games. Through these tasks, students will showcase the knowledge they’ve acquired and the progress they’ve made throughout the academic year.
Despite the short period of time, in just two months, both teachers and students of the Elementary School have dedicated themselves to rigorous rehearsals, pouring their hearts into delivering an impressive performance during the end-of-year subject culmination ceremony. Unfazed by challenges, teachers have even utilized their leisure hours and breaks to prepare props, refine products, and meticulously attend to the smallest details, such as ensuring the “little chicks” have their hats securely fastened. The smiles on the children’s faces, the sparkle in their eyes reflecting enthusiasm and excitement, have infused the practice sessions with a joyful and invigorating atmosphere.
Reflecting on the students’ preparation process, Ms. Vu Thi Ha, the homeroom teacher of Class 3 Casablanca, shared: “The plan was devised by teachers two months ago, but the students only had the final two weeks to rehearse together. Despite being busy with other classroom lessons, the students were enthusiastic and diligent. Some who were shy during regular days transformed into more dynamic and proactive individuals when entrusted with tasks for the Year-End showcase. They boldly proposed their own ideas to me to deliver the most outstanding performance.”
Ms. Ha revealed that the program will feature several distinctive elements compared to previous years. Each performance bears its own unique signature. Children will have the opportunity to showcase their acting abilities through stage plays, confidently exhibit their rich imagination through poetry recitals, and rise to the challenge of hosting as masters of ceremonies. Perhaps, the most poignant moments will arise when parents and teachers gather to listen to the children’s reflections, collectively reminiscing on the significant journey of growth and maturity undertaken throughout the year.
