These are some of the exciting experiences campers enjoyed on the first day of the Maker Talents Summer Camp. Expertly designed by the Scientific and Pedagogical Council at The Dewey Schools, the Maker Talents Summer Camp offers a “3-in-1” combination of Science, Visual Arts, and PE. The camp aims to help campers develop comprehensive global citizenship skills: creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, empathy, and making a positive impact on the community. From the very first day, the camp provided dynamic and enriching activities.
In the inaugural session of the MDE Invention course—a U.S.-based curriculum exclusively transferred from Mount Vernon School—students were encouraged to apply creativity and problem-solving skills to novel topics such as “Imagine if you had superpowers” or “Decipher the code to find the treasure.” In upcoming sessions, campers will also explore design thinking, levers, and their practical applications in everyday life, culminating in the hands-on creation of unique products using lever principles.
In the Visual Arts session, campers had the opportunity to delve into the art of air-dry clay sculpting. They honed their dexterity, utilized observational skills, and engaged their creativity to sculpt various animals. The enthusiasm and dedication to perfecting their creations were evident in every camper.
The day concluded with energetic basketball sessions in the Dewey gymnasium, which came alive with excitement. Beyond improving hand-eye coordination and strategic thinking, playing basketball helped campers develop teamwork, endurance, and concentration.
The exhilarating first day of Maker Talents Summer Camp promises an array of explosive, beneficial, and enjoyable activities in the days ahead. Parents, stay tuned to see the unique creations and notable events at this year’s Maker Talents Summer Camp!
