Job Purpose
- Support the Superintendent to design, develop, implement, and organize a comprehensive and consistent English program in The Dewey Schools system in order to meet the objectives, mission, and vision of TDS, meet the needs of students, and encourage their participation and advancement of all students in the entire system.
- Ensure TDS English programs are of a high-quality international education standard, educational orientation aligned with the Council of International Schools (CIS) and those of the International Baccalaureate (IB) and meet the requirements for assessing student’s development progress in alignment with our partner school Mount Vernon (MV), TDS Curriculum, and Ministry of Education and Training’s (MoET’s) standards
Tasks
- Collaborate with the Education Research and Pedagogy Council, the Head of the Executive Committee and the campus Heads of School on the development of English programs
- Support the Superintendent with the implementation of Dewey’s Modern Education method and curriculum to administrators, teachers, and students
- Set an example of strong educational leadership by maintaining a professional culture with an emphasis on continuing to improve teaching and learning
- Implement the school policies and monitor/enforce the policies related to teaching and learning
- Contribute to the school system’s strategic development plan
- Join the process of recruiting teachers, leaders, and program staff
- Maintain a key role in the leadership team
- Assist the Superintendent and leadership team with important tasks
- Recommend and develop initiatives to inspire and promote career development opportunities for all employees associated with English program initiatives and curriculum development
- Set the goals and outcomes of education quality of English programs for all levels of management
- Analyze student’s learning results and recommend solutions for supporting students’ learning in accordance with TDS goals and objectives
- Monitor the effectiveness of the English program curriculum through regular evaluation of the teaching quality as well as a curriculum to recommend and create appropriate programs for improving professional skills to support the teacher’s development
- Lead English program training initiatives for teachers and leaders by developing and providing professional training based on the school’s needs
- Use Standardized English test results to analyze program effectiveness and identify the aspects that need improvement
- Assess, comment, and recommend changes to the review of all curriculum and materials
- Assist school and academic departments in developing and selecting programs as needed
- Develop English Program curriculum by content, units of study, and grade level
- Provide recommendations and resource lists to schools that support the curriculum, units of study, and student learning
- Ensure the English Program curriculum is aligned both horizontally and vertically by grade level, standards, and skill progression
- Ensure the materials related to the curriculum are carefully secured and manage access to documents and resources
- Communicate with the Superintendent, the Heads of school, and the Education Research and Pedagogy Council regarding curriculum alignment and student learning outcomes
- Ensure the English Program curriculum materials are properly communicated to the Heads of School for dissemination to teachers and support staff
- Ensure learning resources support the English Program curriculum
- Regularly assess the curriculum alignment with the TDS philosophy of education, vision, mission, and core values
- Coordinate with external organizations for standardized testing for the school system, MAP, WIDA, MoET
- Coordinate with TDS external International partnerships and organizations, MVS, CIS, IB
- Develop and deliver academic advising and support, including planning and conducting workshops/seminars for a broad range of stakeholders in collaboration with the other departments and staff, regularly and as needed
- Serve as the primary administrative representative of all matters related to the English Program
- Plan and follow the program from start to completion involving deadlines, milestones, and processes
- Develop and deliver training and coaching to Heads of School and Heads of English-medium subjects
- Provide ongoing supervision and support to instructors via advising on course planning, curriculum development, individual and teaching team consultation, faculty meetings, and in-class observation
- Develop and oversee systems of academic support in collaboration with other departments and staff
- Devise evaluation strategies to monitor the program’s performance and determine the need for improvements
- Lead the English team on program improvement projects related to course design, curriculum, and student learning support systems
- Develop and assist with the planning and supervision of on- and off-site visits with the school’s partners
- Actively plan for, chair, and/or participate in regular meetings with different departments and individuals with regard to academic affairs
- Initiate and set short- and long-term goals for the program and help to implement them
- Take the highest responsibility of, provide valid responses, as well as resolve academic-related problems raised during the implementation of the program
- Discover ways to enhance the efficiency and productivity of procedures and staff
- Create and send out monthly reports to Heads of English Programs at the campuses with evidence and provide support on the implementation improvement
- Research and propose solutions meeting the International standard on a variety of system, school, operational and academic systems
- Actively join and supervise internal and external training courses as assigned
- Create and collaborate in the development of academic program period allocations, admissions, and assessment grading policies each school year
Requirements: Master in Education, 5+ years of experience in management positions related to curriculum, head/deputy head of English department/program or vice principal, principal, etc
