To ensure the best preparation for the 2024-2025 school year, The Dewey Schools held a Parent Orientation Workshop for the entire school this past weekend. This annual event aims to provide Parents with a comprehensive overview of the curriculum and the latest innovations in teaching methods, helping them better understand their role in closely collaborating with the school to build a solid foundation for their children’s all-around development.
The Dewey Schools emphasized three key declarations: high-quality teaching and learning; global citizenship and intercultural learning; and digital citizenship. These statements reflect the school’s strong commitment to providing a safe and enriching learning environment for students. Through practical activities and intentional reflection, students not only enhance their knowledge but also develop essential life skills, thus fostering lifelong learning capabilities and the ability to contribute to society.
One of the key highlights of the workshop was the development of personalized learning plans for each student. With differentiated instruction, Dewey is committed to maximizing each student’s potential while encouraging Parents to contribute their input in designing the most suitable learning pathway for their children. This is a clear testament to the strong and enduring relationship between the school and families – two inseparable factors in a child’s educational journey.
Ms. Tran Thi Phuong Dung, a parent of a 2Osaka student, shared, “I haven’t missed any orientation workshop at Dewey. Personally, I find this to be a highly meaningful activity, helping our family gain specific information about our child’s curriculum for the upcoming school year so that we can closely follow, support, and accompany them. With the differentiated instruction method, I hope that the teachers will design a pathway that aligns with my child’s abilities, especially in Math.”
At the workshop, Parents also had the opportunity to explore an exhibition of educational materials and impressive projects by TDS students, gaining deeper insights into the experiences and knowledge their children have acquired over the past school year.
Another notable aspect of this school year is the inclusion of Korean Parents in the Dewey Parent Association (DPA), enriching the cultural diversity within the Dewey community and fostering connections, mutual understanding, and respect among its members.
The Parent Orientation Workshop not only provided Parents with a clear and detailed overview of the upcoming school year but also reinforced the vital role Parents play in partnering with the school on the educational journey. This strong foundation enables The Dewey Schools to continuously create positive values and work alongside Parents in the development and nurturing of future generations.
