Reviving old items
Spreading green living and positive values to the community
These are what TDSers found at the “Giving is forever” old items market, held on May 10th. This is one of the experiential activities for Students through the process of self-entrepreneurship in selling old items, recycling, and decorating booths.
From the early afternoon, the Gymnasium area was filled with the sound of laughter. Tiny hands skillfully arranged booths, and while some foreheads glistened with sweat, smiles never faded from the faces of the students. Even elementary school Students, though small in stature, charmingly greeted customers and presented their products with professionalism akin to seasoned sellers.
Tran Nguyen Tue Minh, a student from Grade 6 Ottawa, shared: “Our teacher and classmates prepared the booth a week ago. We collected old books, old story-books and other cute items together. I was thrilled to see the enthusiasm from customers for our products. It felt like we were spreading joy and happiness to them.”
Excited to showcase the harvest from the market, Truong Ha Phuong, a 5 Los Angeles Grade’s student, didn’t forget to reveal that the proceeds from today’s event would be donated to Students in remote areas facing difficulties.
“I see the “Giving is forever” market as a humanitarian and meaningful activity of the school. It clearly reflects the spirit of generosity – one of Dewey’s four core educational values. This generosity is evident in our willingness to give and spread joy and positive values to the community. Additionally, amidst the issue of environmental pollution, activities like this old item exchange also promote recycling, reuse, and raise awareness of environmental protection. I believe that starting from small actions like this, together we can create greater values,” said Vu Nha Uyen, a student from Grade 8 Canberra.
