On the education journey of students, The Dewey Schools (TDS) always hopes to offer students numerous opportunities to foster their comprehensive qualities which go hand in hand with our four core values: Integrity, Passion, Generosity and Lifelong Learning. Building the personalities of students is one of the top priorities at TDS. Therefore, the caring, sharing, empathy and generosity of TDSers are fostered and nurtured while studying and growing up at TDS with many meaningful and creative activities which showcase the distinct identity of TDSers.
The creative combination of interesting subjects and charitable activities.
Fundraising for the Viet Nam Red Cross Society through a Learning Project in Humanities
With the learning projects in Humanities, a group of students from 10Budapest launched a ‘campaign’ to raise awareness and funds for the activity of organ donation of the Vietnam Red Cross Society. TDSers decided to sell their self-designed shirts to highlight the demand for organ donation in Vietnam, at the same time encouraging people to better protect their organs. 10Budapest students were the ones who ideated, researched the market and products, then contacted the supplier and processed all the required steps, from crowdfunding to marketing the products.
With this, they hope to help people better understand the importance of taking good care of their organs. All the earned money to the charity fund of the National Coordination Centre for Human Organ Transplantation.
Selling clean veggies harvested from the Sky Garden at TDS to the Charity Fund in the Junior Achievement (JA) subject (Business-Career Orientation)
Under the guidance of teachers, 6th graders at TDS harvested clean vegetables in the garden made a sales plan with a clear profit goal, and practiced selling the vegetables for teachers and staff in the school. At the end of class, each student brought home a small profit and contributed to the Student Council fund to jointly carry out meaningful activities.
Hands-on experiences in the Business-Career Orientation curriculum at TDS not only help students gain practical business experience but also teach them to appreciate money, value labor power, and help nurture future business talents. More than that, the activities demonstrate the students’ generosity to support people who are in need – one of the core values that TDS students are embracing.
Dewey Student Council DSC – Trusted Initiators and Leaders
DSC decided to organize a charity activity called “Infinity”, with the main activity of collecting necessities and stationeries for underprivileged children in Quang Binh. With the desire to convey the message: “We always carry within us boundless generosity to help people”, within a few days, the donation pick-up area of the “Infinity” project at the library hall attracted great attention, and donations from students, parents, and teachers.
After receiving the donated items, DSC members sorted, arranged, and neatly packed them into boxes. “After school hours, we spent time carrying items, classifying them by categories such as toys, books, clothes, and school supplies. Everyone worked enthusiastically, and happily and put all their love into it. I am so happy and proud because this is how we are spreading love to the people around us.” – shared DSC member Do Ngoc Linh.
“Happy to help” – A heart-warming gift-giving for Tet
The volunteer group of H2H – Happy To Help (G11 – The Dewey Schools) participated in the “Tet market with no money” at the National Hospital Of Acupuncture. 200 gift sets of commodities of essential commodities were given to the inpatients of the hospital. H2H was excited to be invited by the hospital to be a sponsor for a stall at the Tet market, hoping their support during this time of the year would give them joy and happiness.
In another activity for Tet, H2H sent 300 gift sets to the students at the Boarding School for Ethnic Minority Students in Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province. Each set consists of a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, a towel, and books, all of which are essential items for students in a boarding school. Expenses for the gifts came from sponsors, parents, and the fund raised by fundraising activities of students such as making handmade items and selling things at market fairs.
Promote a reading culture with a meaningful charity activity
With the aim of connecting parents and students with teachers and school staff to promote a passion for reading and to spread love to disadvantaged individuals, TDS Book Fair 2022 was successfully organized. All parents, students, teachers, and school staff of TDS gave their used books, which filled the bookshelves with nearly 1000 books of various genres: Foreign languages, Science, Education, Literature, Arts, Children’s books, etc. The books were sold at the Book Fair and all the revenue would be donated to the charity fund to support underprivileged students.
Through meaningful activities, students understand the value of giving and receiving: Cultivating empathy, giving love, enhancing responsibility to the community, and receiving bright smiles, appreciation eyes, recognition, and love from those around.
We hope that the enthusiasm from TDSers’ charitable activities will continue to surge, spreading positive values and inspiring all students to create a better world.
