Excelling in the Top 20 out of 100 prominent teams in the Regional Round of the World Scholar’s Cup, students Le Bao Chau, Nguyen Sinh Phu, and Vu Hoang Chau Anh (Grade 5Boston, The Dewey Schools Tây Hồ Tây) proudly carried the Vietnamese flag to the Global Round in Sweden. Their impressive performance at various stages of the competition not only showcased their passion and lifelong learning spirit but also actively promoted the beauty of Vietnamese traditional culture to international friends.
On a stage with nearly 1,200 students from various countries, Bao Chau confidently sang “Hello Vietnam,” a song by a Vietnamese-French composer expressing a yearning to return to one’s roots. The image of a petite, adorable girl in a traditional áo dài captivated the attention of the international audience. Her clear and powerful voice touched the hearts of thousands of listeners:
“One day I’ll touch my soil,
One day I’ll finally know your soul.
One day I’ll come to you,
To say hello… Vietnam.”

“Although I have performed many times at school and other stages in Vietnam, this was my first time singing in front of such a large audience and performing abroad. Every time I sing this song, I feel a surge of pride and love for my country. That day, despite being quite tired after the Bowls round, I believe I sang with all my heart,” shared Bao Chau.
Witnessing her daughter’s confident performance on stage, Nguyen Thi Huyen Anh, Bao Chau’s mother, could not hide her mixed feelings of emotion and pride. “When my daughter participated in this competition, I always told her that achievements are not the most important thing. The valuable experiences and cultural exchanges she gained from this trip are what truly matter. She chose to perform ‘Hello Vietnam’ on her own. I am delighted that she brought the image of her homeland and national pride to international friends.”
Winning the individual debate award in the international round, few would know that five years ago, when she first enrolled at Dewey, Bao Chau had no English background. “Since she attended a Korean school from a young age, Bảo Châu hardly knew any English. However, after five years at Dewey, I have noticed significant positive changes in her. Last academic year, Bao Chau also received an IB scholarship. I highly appreciate the school’s language teaching methods, which combine with international experiential activities for the children,” shared Ms. Huyen Anh.
“I feel fortunate to study at Dewey. My favorite event is International Day at school because it satisfies my passion for exploring and learning about different countries. The multicultural learning environment at Dewey teaches us to respect differences, and the voices and skin colors of other countries. Above all, it teaches us to appreciate our own history and cultural values,” Bao Chau enthusiastically shared.
Not only equipping students with solid knowledge and providing an international learning environment with multicultural experiences, The Dewey Schools also instill pride and love for the country in each student. This educational journey at Dewey is also an inspiring journey that connects hearts and collectively brings Vietnamese culture to the world.
