With over two decades dedicated to the field of education and extensive experience in various learning environments, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan – Head of Academic Program of The Dewey Schools Ocean Park, remains proactive, innovative, and passionate about creating advanced learning environments for outstanding students.
Journey from being a teacher in the mountainous region of Tuyen Quang to aspiring to lofty ideals to help students find themselves.
Ms. Thanh Nhan has dedicated 23 years to advancing in the teaching profession, including over 7 years in school administration. Having traversed diverse educational settings and roles, she always holds the belief that regardless of the position, one must wholeheartedly serve students.
“After graduating, I became a teacher at a mountainous school in Tuyen Quang. This first job became my life fueled by love for students, passion for the profession which ignited the soul, making me realize this was the right choice. Throughout my educational journey, I’ve always been inspired and empowered by successive generations of students who have discovered and nurtured their personal values. Even today, I maintain contact with students from the classes I taught. I believe few professions foster such enduring connections, especially the teacher-student bond.” shared Ms. Thanh Nhan.
With dedication to the teaching profession and love for students, Ms. Thanh Nhan has persistently pursued the objective of creating an ideal learning environment, where every day parents gain more trust and students find more reasons to love coming to school.
“I entered the field of education with the belief that every child is born a genius with equal and boundless potential. The mission of schools and teachers is to create an environment for these potentials to be revealed and developed. That’s why I chose The Dewey Schools as my destination because every school day is a journey for students to become happy individuals. The Dewey environment provides students with many opportunities for development, where they are respected and recognized for their achievements in their own strengths, not compared to anyone else, only compared to their own selves of yesterday to be proud of a better version of themselves today and find themselves” proudly shared by Ms. Thanh Nhan.
The success of students stems from the dedication of the “captains of the ship.”
Upon joining The Dewey Schools’ community as the Program Director at the Tay Ho Tay campus in 2023, Ms. Thanh Nhan was profoundly impressed by the institution’s four core values: Integrity, Passion, Generosity, and Lifelong Learning. In particular, she drew inspiration from the school’s administrators and colleagues in their shared mission to offer students access to American-standard education in Vietnam. This opportunity also allows Ms. Thanh Nhan and her colleagues to actively shape the school’s curriculum and contribute to nurturing a generation of Vietnamese students equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary for happiness, integration, and success in an international environment.
When asked about the significance of education, Ms. Thanh Nhan expresses: “I always resonate with the quote from the philosopher Socrates: “Education is about helping you with knowing yourself”. I am also inspired by the words of educational reformer John Dewey: “Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” This philosophy is what The Dewey Schools adhere to, and it’s the reason why the school chose the name Dewey for its noble educational journey. The Dewey environment is where I dedicate myself, share, and continue learning valuable knowledge to contribute to enhancing the quality of education for future generations.”
After years of accompanying students and parents, Ms. Thanh Nhan aspires to cultivate a professional learning environment where students are inspired to become genuinely fulfilled individuals, equipped with the ability to learn independently, and empowered to realize their own values for the betterment of the community on the foundation of sustainable core values. To realize this dream, Ms. Thanh Nhan consistently emphasizes the dedication of each “captain of the ship.”
“We – the teachers at The Dewey Schools Ocean Park, with the support of the Educational Research and Professional Council (ERPC) of the Edufit Corporation, aim to create a positive learning community where each individual can thrive in a spirit of inquiry, solidarity, and mutual support, always placing students and their rights at the center. At Dewey, our team of domestic and international teachers is carefully selected for their high pedagogical qualifications, constantly expanding their knowledge, and readily embracing new teaching methods to create wonders in students’ learning journey” explained Ms. Thanh Nhan.
Ms. Nhan herself, alongside her colleagues, actively engages in specialized training programs organized by the Educational Research and Professional Council (ERPC), aspiring to become “leaders” at the forefront of educational innovation trends, thus fostering a better learning environment for students every day.
Becoming the Head of Academic Program of a new campus, Ms. Thanh Nhan understands that this journey will come with many challenges and significant responsibilities. Nevertheless, she perceives it as a chance for personal growth and a larger contribution.
The Dewey Schools Ocean Park will officially open in August 2024. With dedication and creativity, passion and generosity, determination and innovative thinking, Ms. Thanh Nhan, along with the highly skilled team, will steadfastly lead the school to continue the success of The Dewey Schools. It aims to become an excellent choice for parents and students in the East Hanoi area.
