Take a look back at their growing-up journey
Throughout many cherished moments accompanying our beloved students, The Dewey Schools believe that each TDSer has had precious memories at the school. For the 5th-grade students, this will be a particularly special academic year as they will soon transition to Middle School. Looking back on the 5-year journey of elementary school, you have always had the guidance and support of parents and teachers to make each day at Dewey a joyful learning experience.
During the recent Learning Report of grade 5, parents experienced poignant moments reflecting on their child’s journey to maturity at The Dewey Schools Tay Ho Tay. The reporting session kicked off with a bonding game between parents and children, challenging the family’s understanding of each other. The crisp laughter and playful calls to parents, exchanging information discreetly, were part of the “How Well Do Parents Understand Their Child?” game. Each question served as an opportunity for parents to revisit their child’s growth journey at Dewey.
By your creativity, express your dreams
The highlight of the Learning Report was the project titled “The Middle School Within Me Is…” that the students dedicated themselves to completing over the course of more than a week. Every stroke and carefully crafted line in the students’ work demonstrated their individual creativity and imagination in shaping their ideas about the ideal middle school. Through this project, students were encouraged to explore educational, social, and environmental issues, providing insights into educational experiences, community and social interaction, and ideas on how technology and innovation could be integrated into their dream school.
“My dream school will feature the presence of adorable animals in the classrooms. At the beginning of the school year, each class will be given a pet to care for, and by the end of the year, students will conduct a survey about the species they have nurtured. A unique aspect of the school will be the introduction of a cat café where students can have a space to do their assignments,” shared Nguyen Han Bao Tien, 5New York class, with enthusiasm.
Prepare for all students’ future journey
Dewey understands that the upcoming journey to middle school will bring many uncertainties for both students and parents. Therefore, to enhance the understanding of the middle school environment and teaching methods, the 7th-grade students at TDS Tay Ho Tay confidently share their authentic learning experiences. Additionally, teachers and the school administration clarify the unique aspects of the program and teaching methods as students transition to the 6th grade.
Tran Huyen My, a student from 7Bridgetown class, has demonstrated how the innovative teaching methods in the Vietnamese subject at Dewey nurture her love for literature: “I have learned about the history of the Vietnamese script and gained insights into the scripts used by the Vietnamese people in the past through an interactive session with Dr. Pham Kieu Ly, a linguist who authored the history of the Vietnamese in the Vietnamese 6 book. Moreover, I greatly appreciate the Learning by Doing method at school because it allowed me to experience a day of lesson planning and teaching, similar to our teachers. All the discoveries I’ve made at school have contributed to my growing fondness for the subject of literature.”
The Q&A part created a great sense of excitement for the students, as each one confidently raised their hand to pose questions to the School Administration. The questions were not only intriguing but also practical, such as: “Will the food options be more when you enter 6th grade?” or “In middle school, are you allowed to choose our favorite sport in Physical Education?”. All of these questions were addressed in detail by the school representatives.
Ms. Le Thi Thanh Mai, the form teacher of 5Los Angeles class, shares a message full of affection with the students during the reporting session: “I always feel incredibly fortunate to accompany you all in your final year of elementary school. It’s difficult to express the emotions of witnessing your smiles, hearing your everyday stories, and observing your growth in this special academic year. I wish for each of you to always hold onto joy and passion in your hearts. I believe you will create many beautiful memories with friends and teachers under the beloved Dewey School.”
Through this project, The Dewey Schools wishes all 5th grade students to always try their best in studying, become exemplary, obedient students, and always shine wherever they go on the path they have chosen in the future.
