The magical land of literature in the classroom
“Like all the parents sitting here today, I greatly appreciate your efforts. At your age and with a relatively short preparation time, you have cooperated excellently with the teachers in memorizing your lines, seamlessly transforming into your characters, and performing confidently on stage. I believe that the past year of studying Vietnamese literature has not only been an educational journey but also one of personal growth, recognizing your maturity and development. We, the parents and teachers, are proud to stand by your side on this journey,” shared Ms. Nguyen Mai Anh, a parent of a student at Grade 1 Jakarta, in her heartfelt message to the children as the “Year-End Showcase of Literature Vietnamese subject” concluded.
Officially launched on May 14th and lasting for a week, the “Year-End Showcase of Literature Vietnamese Subject” series turned each classroom at Dewey into a magical literary land. Stepping into this world, parents were amazed by the vibrant displays of the students’ work. More than just simple words, each poem and writing assignment was illustrated and decorated as a piece of art.
Exploring the beauty of literature through the film reenacting the history of the Vietnamese language
Creative and engaging, the skillful hands of grade 2 students vividly brought to life the history and development of the Vietnamese language from ancient times to the present through the film “The Path of Language.” From its early days, Vietnamese was composed of simple pictographic characters, gradually evolving into a written script with single syllables and compound words. Over time, with linguistic and cultural exchanges with other countries, Vietnamese has become richer, more beautiful, and more refined. The beauty of the Vietnamese language was charmingly and endearingly showcased by the students through poetry performances, the creation of folk verses, and attempts at Haiku poetry.
The pure and innocent performances of the young actors also took parents on an adventurous journey to explore the multifaceted beauty of literature through captivating plays. These included fairy tales with brave Thach Sanh, kind-hearted Tam, and filial So Dua. The literary world rich in humanistic spirit was illustrated through familiar works like “Diary of a Cricket,” “Toad Sues Heaven,” and “When the Lights Go Out.” The national pride of Vietnam was also vividly portrayed through the heroic stories of Thanh Giong, the Trung Sisters, and General Tran Binh Trong.
Connecting the family through a meaningful event
The “Year-End Showcase of Literature Vietnamese Subject” for grades 1 to 4 not only allowed parents to reflect on their child’s academic journey over the past school year but also provided an opportunity for parents to engage and share with their children through family bonding activities such as puppet shows, body language performances, and leaf painting. These happy and meaningful moments serve as a loving reminder that the children’s literary exploration journey is always accompanied by the love and support of their family, in addition to their teachers.
