The excursion to the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism offers an incredible opportunity for TDSers to immerse themselves in a vibrant cultural atmosphere, rich in national identity, and to foster love and pride for their homeland.
In the heart of the Central Highlands’ cultural ambiance, students engage and mingle to the resonant sounds of drums and gongs, witness traditional folk dances and songs performed by the E De ethnic group. Excitement shines on their faces as they experience traditional musical instruments such as the Hmong Khen or the Tay ethnic group’s Grourd lute. Students are introduced to the cultural origins and significance of the Then singing and the Grourd lute, learning how these instruments are crafted while listening to the melodious and rhythmic Then tunes performed by artisans. TDSers also have the opportunity to try their hand at wrapping Uoi cakes – a specialty of the Muong people, symbolizing love and unity.
Nguen Ngoc Tuong Vi, a student of 9Dublin, shares her thoughts: “This trip provided many unforgettable experiences. I gained a deeper appreciation for the richness and diversity of Vietnam’s ethnic groups, each with its own unique characteristics expressed through architecture, clothing, and culture. This has instilled in us a sense of respect and love for our national cultural identity.”
The outdoor learning projects at Dewey help students reinforce their knowledge while developing observation and critical thinking skills. Instead of passively receiving information, students actively explore traditional cultural values, fostering pride and strengthening the bond between Vietnam’s ethnic groups. On the journey to becoming global citizens, each Dewey student serves as a cultural ambassador, contributing to the preservation and promotion of our ancestors’ invaluable traditional cultural values.
