Modern education cannot exist without the integration of knowledge and technology. However, for ethnic minority students, especially those in remote and isolated areas, access to technology remains a significant challenge.
Understanding the critical role of technology in education, as part of D-Show 25, The Dewey Schools collaborated with the @IT Classroom for Children Project under the @Nourising Children ecosystem to establish IT classrooms for ethnic minority students. This initiative not only enables these students to access technology but also helps them overcome digital barriers, providing learning opportunities that allow them to keep pace with societal development.
PROJECT DETAILS: “IT CLASSROOM FOR CHILDREN”
Key Activities of the Project:
- Donating IT Classrooms to Schools: D-Show 25 will provide computers and IT classroom equipment to schools in remote and underserved areas, where students currently lack access to technology.
- Organizing Online IT Classes Led by Dewey Students: Students from The Dewey Schools will directly teach online IT classes for students at the schools receiving the donated IT classrooms, helping them become familiar with computers and basic software.
Implementation Approach:
- Identifying suitable schools: D-Show 25 will collaborate with the Nourising Children ecosystem to identify at least seven schools that currently lack IT classrooms or essential equipment for IT education.
- Continuous updates: After the IT classrooms are donated, schools will provide regular updates with photos of students using the computers at the end of each semester to track progress and evaluate the project’s impact.
- Teaching IT to students: Dewey students will participate in teaching online IT classes during the first school year, sharing fundamental computer knowledge and skills with students at the recipient schools.
Criteria for selecting schools to receive support:
- Schools without computers or with more than four students sharing one computer.
- Schools with adequate infrastructure to set up an IT classroom.
- Schools with ethnic minority students.
- Schools with IT teachers to support teaching and maintain the IT classroom.
With the theme “The Future Me,” D-Show 25 is more than just a performing arts showcase – it is an inspirational journey where each student takes ownership of shaping their own future. “The Future Me” delivers a powerful message: that students’ futures are not confined by predetermined molds but are instead built through their freedom to explore their own potential and self-worth. We believe that each computer donated is not merely a learning tool but a gateway to invaluable opportunities for ethnic minority students, empowering them to reach for a brighter future. This initiative represents a significant step in equipping these students with the power of knowledge and technology, laying the foundation for their holistic development and enabling them to create meaningful impacts within their communities.
Join D-Show 25 in this journey to spread positivity and bring a brighter future to the younger generations of ethnic minorities. Together, we can create profound changes – not just for each individual student but also for their communities and society as a whole.
